Abstract In the present report, we describe the very rare occurrence of soft tissue metastases from sarcoma at four sites in three
patients, focusing on the clinical course and radiological features. All soft tissue masses occurred as a result of disseminated
metastases from malignant sarcomas. The initial symptoms presented as painful masses. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated
a non-specific appearance for the skeletal metastases derived from the sarcomas, corresponding to the signal of the primary
lesion.

We presented a 40-year-old female
patient with bilateral humerus and femur fractures associated concomitant injuries such as nondisplaced acetabular fracture,
rib fractures and traumatic tendon ruptures. She was operated by arthroscopically assisted retrograde intramedullary nailing
for femur fractures as well as by external fixators for humerus fractures. She was able to walk with full weight-bearing without
any assistance at the end of the first postoperative year. Early fixation of the fractures in floating body injury using retrograde
intramedullary nailing and external fixator is successful treatment method.

Abstract The use of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty appears to be increasing despite a significant number of early revisions. This
study looks at a consecutive series of such procedures. We retrospectively reviewed thirteen patients who had a revision of
a unicompartmental knee replacement between January 2003 and March 2008 inclusively. During the study period, a total of 141
UKAs were performed in the reporting unit, of those 9 were revised to TKA. The indication for revision to TKA was determined
from clinical records and radiographs. All patients who underwent revision were followed up using Oxford Kn...

Conclusions Previous studies have shown the LISS plate to be an effective device in treating complex distal femoral fractures including
periprosthetic fractures. Our study looked into a unique group of patients who are physiologically high risk and have poor
tolerance for a major surgery. The LISS plate appears to be a good implant to treat osteoporotic distal femoral fractures.

We present two cases of pulmonary embolism (PE) without deep venous thrombosis (DVT) after spinal surgery with an anterior

(CT) was performed from chest to lower limb, revealing PE without lower limb DVT. After the exam, we immediately started anticoagulation
therapy with heparin and warfarin. The patients were discharged with no complications. Previous reports have documented that
DVT causes most cases of PE; however, our cases had no lower limb DVT. Some reports hypothesize that anterio...

Abstract Satisfactory outcomes following an open patellar fracture are quite common. The priorities of management are thorough debridement
and rigid fixation by wiring technique or other procedures. In this paper, the authors reported a piece of jean cotton retained
in the left knee joint following an open patellar fracture case. Marked chronic synovitis and an osteochondral defect of the
lateral femoral condyle were illustrated. The reaction subsided following the removal of the foreign body. With 20-years follow-up,
the defect healed with radiologic evidence of knee osteoarthritis. The case demonstrates th...

This report describes pelvic ring disruption in a 34-year-old female, following bilateral psoas abscess formation secondary
to multifocal pneumococcal septicaemia of unknown origin. This previously unreported complication of psoas abscess formation
was associated with pubic symphysis disruption, sacroiliac joint infection, disruption and latterly arthrosis of the hip joint
secondary to infection. The authors believe that aggressive surgical and medical treatment and a high index of suspicion for
orthopaedic complications is necessary in patients with a psoas abscess. Repeated X-rays and long term follow-up is suggested...

Abstract The treatment of unstable trochanteric femoral fractures is still challenging, and the proximal femoral nails are becoming

with some possible complications. In our study, we tried to present the results of proximal nailing surgery performed in the
lateral decubitus position and manual traction on a radiolucent table without the fracture table traction.

We present a rare case of intramuscular haemangioma of the tibialis anterior adjacent to bone in a 32-year-old woman with
the history suggestive of right tibial fracture. Plain radiographs showed an hypertrophic periosteal reaction and a thickening
on the cortical shaft of the tibia. MRI revealed an intramuscular mass adjacent to the bone with inhomogeneous high signal
intensity. The lesion was treated by resection of the soft-issue mass. The patient remained asymptomatic 30 months post-operatively
with no signs of recurrence. These lesions mimic periosteal or parosteal tumours.

We present a case of 42-year-old man, who sustained a simultaneous fracture of the femoral shaft and trifocal tibia. Our management
consisted of treating both the femoral and the tibial fractures surgically, by intramedullary nailing and a percutaneous screw
fixation of tibial and malleolar fracture. He was evaluated at 4 years of follow-up. With careful attention to some technical
points, femoral fracture, ipsilateral tibial plateau, shaft and malleolar fractures can be managed successfully by combining
two familiar techniques commonly employed for each injury in isolation.

Conclusion Posterior-only pedicle screw fixation in unstable thoracolumbar fractures would correct and maintain the postoperative correction

We present two cases of
wide diastasis of the pubic symphysis following a sudden horse U-turn in two young recreational horse riders with a recent
short-term steroid intake drug history, and a contemporary view of the physiopathology and definitive treatment for these
injuries. Diastasis of the pubic symphysis resulting from a sudden horse U-turn, in horse riders with a drug history of recent
short-term steroid intake has not been previously reported. We want to emphasise the risks of pubic symphysis fragility in
patients with a recent medical history of steroids therapy.

We report a case of
a 51-year-old man who presented a tumor involving the posteromedial aspect of the left knee and which progressed in size for
7 years. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a heterogeneous high-signal intensity in the mass on T1 and T2-weighted images.
The tumor was excised en bloc. Macroscopically, it was lobulated and measured 13 cm in its largest diameter. Histology led
to the diagnosis of fibroma of the tendon sheath. At 6 years’ follow-up, there was no local recurrence. To the best of our
knowledge, the location and the size of this fibroma of the tendon sheath have never bee...

Conclusion Cincinnati score showed no significant difference between two groups (P > 0.05). Regarding KT2000 testing results, the case group showed better outcome with significant difference (P = 0.01). There was better edema reduction in the case group with significant difference too (P = 0.01). Higher scores in KT2000 testing and better reduction of edema in the case group represent that the new method could
be advantageous besides its low cost and technical simplicity.

Abstract The purpose of our study was to compare the outcome of dorsally displaced distal radial fractures treated either by open reduction
and internal fixation or with percutaneous k-wire stabilisation. Twenty two consecutive patients with a dorsally displaced
distal radial fracture treated surgically were reviewed. A clinical and radiological evaluation was performed and each patient
completed a patient-rated wrist evaluation form. The range of movement and strength of the wrist was determined by the occupational
therapist. There was no significant difference between the groups for range of movement, grip...

This study systematically reviews the evidence-base pertaining to the use of the Less Invasive Stabilization System (LISS)
fixation method in the management of tibial plateau and proximal tibial fractures. An electronic database and hand search
was undertaken. Study methodology was assessed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme tool. A total of 14 publications
including 597 patients with 610 proximal tibial fractures after LISS management were reviewed. These suggest that LISS fixation
is suitable for tibial plateau and proximal tibial fractures, but that there remains a high incidence of loss of reduction
(14...

We report a case of Stickler syndrome associated with slipped capital femoral epiphysis. A 10-year-old male subsequently developed
left thigh pain without any provoking cause. Three days after, when he swung a bat, marked left hip pain developed. Radiograph
showed a slipped capital femoral epiphysis. At the age of 1 year, he underwent surgery due to cleft palate. The visual acuity
was bilaterally decreased, and a diagnosis of bilateral retinal/vitreous degeneration had been made. Radiograph on the normal
side showed coxa valga. According to clinical symptoms and past history, diagnosis of Stickler syndrome associa...

Abstract In this paper, authors present the forms of fractures of proximal part of ulna bone. Research is based on the completed data
of 34 child and young patients in the age of 9–17 years treated in the Clinic of Pediatric Surgery and Traumatology, Medical
University of Lublin and Clinic of Traumatology, Medical University of Lublin, in the years 1986–2005. In those years we had
1,048 children and youth with various elbow’s fractures in age between 4 and 17 years. Fractures have been singled out according
to the age and gender as well as the side of the fracture. In our material, we separat...

We report three cases where the imaging raised the possibility of giant cell tumours but biopsy has revealed an
altogether more aggressive pathology. We believe biopsy is mandatory in presumed giant cell tumours, particularly those affecting
the distal radius.
