Lymphangioleiomyomatosis: solitary abdominal manifestation (2009: 9b)

Discuss or comment on this article.
We report a case of a 23-year-old woman who presented with diffuse, but increasing abdominal
pain. Transabdominal ultrasound showed multiple cystic formations. Due to the patient’s uncharacteristic symptoms, an exploratory
laparotomy with tissue sampling was performed, and the diagnosis of LAM was confirmed by two independent pathologists. With
computed tomography a broad abdominal, but no pulmonary, manifestation could be established. During sirolimus therapy the
patient showed clinical benefit, but only slight progress in computed tomography.

Woven polydioxanone biodegradable stents: a new treatment option for benign and malignant oesophageal strictures

Discuss or comment on this article.
We present our initial experience with a new biodegradable (BD) esophageal stent in two patients, one for a therapy-resistant
benign esophageal stricture, and the other as a temporary measure during curative radiotherapy for oesophageal carcinoma.
Methods The BD stents need to be loaded into a conventional pull-back delivery system but are then placed in a standard fashion. Pre-dilatation
should be avoided to reduce the risk of migration, however if migration occurs the stents can be left to dissolve in the stomach.
The stents are radiolucent but easily identified on CT with minimal artefact and thus...

Conclusion As shown before, the global CCS does not correlate well with stenosis. However, regional calcium distribution and specific

for identifying individuals with obstructive disease could be improved by vessel-based rather than global quantification of
calcium and by differentiating specific morphological patterns of calcification.

urgent surgical treatment. We present the preoperative findings on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.

Conclusion DCE-MRI is a non-invasive technique that can measure variations of myometrial microcirculation, and thereby be potentially
useful to help characterize the role and states of the myometrium in assisted reproductive therapy.

Multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma in cirrhotic candidates for liver transplantation: prevalence of radiological vascular patterns and histological correlation with liver explants

Conclusion In cirrhotic patients, any Hyper-L-Wo detected by MDCT can be confidently considered to be HCC. Hyper-L larger than 10 mm
and Hypo-L of 20 mm or larger are at high risk of HCC. However, even using MDCT and the newest imaging protocols, imaging
underestimated the diagnosis of small HCC.

Discussion The application of the systematic design principles proved successful in producing a new curriculum approved by all authorities.
The principles led to a structured, yet flexible, development process in which creative solutions could be generated and adopters
(programme directors, supervisors and residents) were highly involved. Further research is needed to empirically test the
components of the new curriculum.

Conclusion Image homogeneity remains challenging and should be improved by future technical developments. FLAIR imaging at 7 T yields
a high SNR,with better contrast for WM substructures and the iron-bearing basal ganglia, and has potential for good conspicuity
of WM lesions.

Conclusions Based on our results, we believe that the role of positron emission tomography in the detection of occult neoplasms in patients
with PNS has been overestimated in the past. In clinical practice, PNS is far more often suspected than proven. In our study
combined PET/CT identified malignancy as the underlying cause of suspected PNS in only 8.7% (4/46). We believe that combined
PET/CT should be reserved for stringently selected patients with a high clinical index of suspicion for PNS and after conventional
imaging techniques fail to detect a tumour.

Conclusions With the knowledge of procedure-specific MDCTA findings in various vascular conditions, the radiologist and surgeon are able
to perform an efficient pre-interventional planning and follow-up examination. Based on our experience with this novel technique
of combined open and endovascular aortic aneurysm treatment, this pictorial review illustrates procedure-specific imaging
findings, including common and rare complications, with respect to 2D and 3D post-processing techniques.
