Publication date: November 2017 Source:Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy, Volume 6, Issue 4 Author(s): Min-Min Hou, Lian Xu, Ming-Rong Qie Choriocarcinoma is a rare pregnancy-related malignancy. The majority is arising from non-molar pregnancy. Here we report a patient who was diagnosed with postmolar choriocarcinoma after an interval of 7 years. Before surgery, we suspected the diagnosis of the patient was intramural pregnancy or choriocarcinoma. Laparoscopy was performed and hysterectomy was carried out. Postoperative pathological evaluation of the surgical specimen confirmed the case was choriocarcinoma. Hy...

“Energy devices in gynecological laparoscopy – Archaic to modern era”
Publication date: Available online 1 September 2017 Source:Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy Author(s): Amruta Jaiswal, Kuan-Gen Huang The introduction of newer vessel sealing systems has revolutionized techniques of hemostasis during laparoscopic surgery. These devices allow for rapid sequential tissue and vessel sealing, coagulation, and transection. Despite of widespread use of newer advanced bipolar and ultrasonic devices, monopolar and conventional bipolar electro-surgery still carry weightage due to wider range of tissue effect, dissection capabilities, cost effectiveness, and ease of availability. Here i...

Clinical implication for endometriosis associated with ovarian cancer
Publication date: Available online 30 August 2017 Source:Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy Author(s): Pao-Ling Torng We reviewed current literature regarding the association of endometriosis and epithelial ovarian cancer based on epidemiology studies, molecular researches and clinical observations. Our methods include a review of literature research of MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Library of Systematic Reviews and reference search in selected papers. The life time risk of epithelial ovarian cancer in women with endometriosis is low, yet there might be a cluster of individuals who have higher risk of developing epit...

A case of laparoscopic surgery for endometrial cancer in a patient previously treated with a transvaginal mesh procedure for pelvic organ prolapse
Publication date: Available online 15 April 2017 Source:Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy Author(s): Kiyoshi Yoshino, Eiji Kobayashi, Masayuki Endo, Mamoru Kakuda, Aiko Okada, Takuji Tomimatsu, Kenjiro Sawada, Masahiko Takemura, Tadashi Kimura Transvaginal mesh (TVM) surgery is an effective treatment option for women with pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Because the TVM procedure preserves the uterus, it is possible for endometrial cancer to occur at a later date. We herein present the first report of such an endometrial cancer, diagnosed well after TVM surgery for POP, and the use of laparoscopic surgery to...

Simultaneous bilateral tubal ectopic pregnancy after intracytoplasmic sperm injection and embryo transfer, in a patient with Stage 3 endometriosis
Discussion The various possible pathophysiological mechanisms are described, with a review of the literature on simultaneous bilateral extrauterine pregnancy following ART. In pregnancies following ART, ectopic pregnancy should always be screened for by serum β-human chorionic gonadotropin monitoring and transvaginal ultrasound until the implantation site can be confirmed as the incidence is higher than in spontaneous pregnancy. Even if serum β-human chorionic gonadotropin concentration increases normally, possible bilateral ectopic pregnancy should always be investigated if no intrauterine gestational sac can be seen. (...

Embolization of iatrogenic uterine pseudoaneurysm
We report cases of two patients with UAP, both of whom were diagnosed with ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced computed tomography and successfully treated with transcatheter embolization. The first patient presented delayed hypovolemic shock following surgery for endometriosis, whereas the second patient suffered from postpartum hemorrhage after cesarean section. Diagnosis of UAPs relies on noninvasive imaging; transcatheter arterial embolization is an effective treatment to control bleeding in both hemodynamically stable and unstable patients.
