Abstract Before performing transnasal fiberscopy to observe the nasal cavity, pharynx and larynx in outpatient clinics, nasal anesthetics
and vasoconstrictive agents are routinely sprayed into the nares in order to improve patients’ comfort. Bacterial contamination
of the nozzles of Venturi principle atomizer barrels and their solutions after being used for multiple patients over a long-term
period without cleaning is controversial. We evaluated the potential risk of atomizer-associated cross-infection by using
atomizers commonly available in Japan that use compressed air to atomize medication. Eighteen of...

Abstract Hearing aids are the principal means of auditory rehabilitation for patients with moderate to severe sensorineural hearing
loss. Although technical improvements and modifications have improved the fidelity of conventional aids, hearing aids still
have many limitations. Implantable hearing aids offer patients with hearing loss several potential advantages over conventional
hearing aids. This presentation will highlight our first experience, the indications, the procedure, the advantages and the
current status of totally implantable hearing aids.

Abstract Management of bilateral vocal fold immobility continues to remain a challenge for the Otolaryngologist who attempts to create
a balance between creation of an adequate airway and preservation of voice. The flow volume loop obtained by spirometry provides
an ideal objective assessment tool to evaluate the results of surgery for this condition. Our experience in using peak inspiratory
flow rate (PIFR) and forced inspiratory flow with 50% of vital capacity (FIF50) in the lung in assessing the results of surgery is described. Seventeen patients were included in the study. The surgical

epithelial remnant is common when using the standard technique especially those patients who had prior abscess or surgical
intervention. The supraauricular approach described by Prasad, offers a better chance for total excision of the sinus and

Abstract Most recurrences of cancers of the nose and paranasal sinuses are attributed to inadequate local control of disease. Since
such tumours are usually advanced a standard maxillectomy procedure is inadequate Nevertheless batter local control is obtainable
by modifying palatal zygomatic or superior bone cuts (cranifacial resection) or including an appropriate part of the septum
in the specimen. This paper describes 78 such cases undergoing surgicad ablation. Uses of CT and modifications of standard
surgical techniques adapted for various tumour extensions are described.

Abstract The Caloric test is a recognised modality of investigating the vestibular dysfunction. The various techniques are proposed
for simplificatian of Bithermal alternate test. The Bithermal Dicthermal Simultaneous test appears more physiological than
other tests because the stimuli simulates normal head rotation. It is more sensitive (70%) and specific (90%) than alternate
test specially in the central vestibular disorders. The central disinhibition and compensation inherent in the recovery of
vestibular lesion makes the alternate test of limited usefulness.

Abstract A case of an adult male patient with “an extensive solitary xanthoma of Temporal bone”, is being presented. Though a rare
condition in itself, our case is different from two cases reported so far in that it was not associated with raised serum
cholesterol and for scrum lipoprotein levels.

Abstract A sixty year old patient underwent radical Radiotherapy for a transglottic laryngeal carcinoma and the primary site was free
of disease 6 weeks later. The initial work up showed a clear roentgenogram of the chest and the vertebral architecture was
normal. The patient had neurological symptoms few months later and a diagnostic CT Scan of brain showed intracranial metastases.
Locally he was disease free as in the chest. After a palliative course of radiotherapy of the brain, the patient expired.
The probable route of spread was discussed.
