Abstract X-linked Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is the most common of the peroxisomal disorder and is associated with functional defect
of the very long chain fatty acid (VLCFA) oxidation leading to the accumulation of VLCFA in the white matter and adrenal cortex.
Retrospective evaluation of medical records of ALD patients were carried out. In all the 5 patients the duration of the symptoms
varied from 1–7 years. Most of them presented with Addisonian crisis (4/5) and hyperpigmentation (5/5), white half of them
(3/5) had neurological symptoms. All patients had biochemical evidence of the adrenal insufficiency...

Abstract Candidemia and disseminated candidiasis are major causes of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients especially in

Conclusion More bigger and mature babies are developing severe ROP in South India than in industrialized countries. The characteristics
of babies affected are similar to those seen during the first epidemic of ROP which occurred during the 1950s in Europe and
North America. Guidelines on oxygenation and screening policies should be jointly developed by pediatricians and ophthalmologists
to end this epidemic of avoidable blindness in India.

Abstract The authors describe an extremely unusual case of a giant hemicranial subdural empyema occurring nine years after insertion
of a venticuloperitoneal shunt. Though the empyema was evacuated, the child suffered significant morbidity and remained hemiparetic.
The present case highlights the delayed morbidity following a ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion and the need of prolonged
and regular follow up in children who have undergone this procedure.

Abstract Kimura’s disease is a rare cause of a progressive neck swelling associated with blood and tissue esinophilia. Though it is
a benign disease, however, its unrelating course and unpredictable response to the therapeutic interventions, poses a great
challenge to the treating physician, the patients and the caregiver. Here is one such case of Kimura’s disease.

We report a 4-year-old boy presenting with a tense massive ascites and large hydrocele. History and physical examination were
unremarkable. Routine laboratory studies were normal. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed massive ascites. Contrast CT was
suggestive of a large cyst covering the entire peritoneal cavity. At laparotomy, a large cystic tumor was found extending
into the scrotum through the left inguinal ring. Histopathologic examination diagnosed the tumor as a cystic lymphangiomatous
hemartoma. Although abdominal lymphangiomas are seen in children, but presenting as massive ascites with hydrocele is very
rare.

Abstract Anterior urethrall valves with associated urethral diverticulum is a rare but important cause of infravesical obstructive
uropathy in children. This condition can be a cause of significant morbidity and can even lead to end-stage renal disease.
This rare condition should be included in the differential diagnosis while evaluating male infants with infravesical obstructive
uropathy. One recent case led us to review existing literature reports of anterior urethral valve and associated urethral
diverticulum.

Abstract Herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE) is a leading cause of sporadic, nonepidemic viral encephalitis in children and adults. We
report a very rare case of HSE with involvement of bilateral thalamus, putamen, upper pons and midbrain, with development
of extrapyramidal symptoms which responded to corticosteroid therapy. A 15-mth-old female baby admitted with complaint of
fever for 5 days and generalised tonic clonic seizure 10 hours before admission. On clinical examination patient was drowsy,
temperature was 39.4 °C and vitals were stable with signs of increased intracranial tension. There were no signs...
