Necrotizing pulmonary infection from retained foreign body: Case report and review of the literature
We report the case of a 2-year-old boy presenting with a necrotizing pulmonary infection from a foreign body in the distal left lower lobe that had gone unrecognized for one year and subsequently review the literature regarding a changing trend in management of pediatric necrotizing pulmonary infections. Endotracheal involvement from atypical mycobacterium causing respiratory difficulty: case report and literature review
Atypical mycobacterium infections often present as cervicofacial lymphadenitis in pediatric patients. Endotracheal involvement, however, is rare, and has not been previously described with imaging and photographs. An infant with natural killer T-cell deficiency was admitted with cough, rhinorrhea, and cervical lymphadenopathy. Laryngotracheobronchitis-type symptoms persisted and imaging revealed an intraluminal abnormality of the trachea. Endoscopy confirmed a mediastinal lymph node with intrusion into the tracheal lumen. Novel EYA1 Variants Causing Branchio-Oto-Renal Syndrome
Branchio-oto-renal (BOR) syndrome is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder characterized by second branchial arch anomalies, hearing impairment, and renal malformations. Pathogenic mutations have been discovered in several genes such as EYA1, SIX5, and SIX1. However, nearly half of those affected reveal no pathogenic variant by traditional genetic testing. Catheads in the Cradle: A ten-month old girl with a subglottic cathead burr
We present the case of a young girl with a cathead burr impacted in her subglottis. Novel means were required to extract it, and her case highlights logistical and technical difficulties in managing paediatric foreign body aspiration in regional areas. Bilateral Submandibular Gland Agenesis
Aplasia of the major salivary glands is a rare disease with a limited number of cases reported in the literature. We document the case of a 16 year old patient with incidental bilateral submandibular gland aplasia discovered during work-up and treatment of a parotid gland malignancy, and review the literature on salivary gland agenesis. Glial Heterotopia of the Postauricular Region: A New Location
Glial heterotopia is a rare benign congenital lesion of the head and neck that consists of normal brain tissue in an abnormal location and has no connection with the central nervous system. It tends to be midline but can be found in other locations. It can easily be confused with lymphatic malformations as the appearance on imaging and the clinical course can mimic this entity. We encountered a glial heterotopia that was misdiagnosed as a lymphatic malformation and treated with sclerotherapy, but soon after was diagnosed and cured with surgical excision. Severe trismus due to bilateral elongated mandibular coronoid process in an infantile-onset Pompe disease patient: A case report
We report the first case of severe trismus due to abnormal elongation of the coronoid process of the mandible in a child with infantile-onset Pompe disease. Bilaterally elongated mandibular coronoid processes cause abnormal impingement between the coronoid process and the zygomatic process, which in this patient, resulted in a maximal interincisal opening of only 6 mm. Primary nasal tuberculosis with lacrimal drainage involvement
We report two cases of nasal tuberculosis from an endemic area who presented with epiphora as the only symptom. Both cases had no nasal symptoms, no cervical lymph nodes involvement and no evidence of pulmonary tuberculosis. Histopathology of biopsy from nasal mucosa in both cases was consistent with tuberculosis. Tuberculin test and Quantiferon TB-Gold test were positive. The patients were treated with anti tubercular therapy along with endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy. (Source: International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Extra)

Subglottic Granular Cell Tumor: Diagnostic andtherapeuticstrategies
We present a case of subglottic GCT in a healthy 10 year old and the diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties it presents. Symptomatology, treatment options, recurrence and complications are discussed. Due to size and location of this lesion, patient underwent open resection and primary reconstruction using head and neck principles to achieve negative margins. Luc's abscess masquerading as severe otitis externa
We report a 12-year old boy who presented with severe otitis externa, complicated by a Luc's abscess. He underwent incision and drainage of the abscess without mastoidectomy, followed by 6-weeks of culture-directed antibiotic therapy, and recovered well. This case suggests that Luc's abscess may present as severe otitis externa. It also supports the current literature, that the need for a mastoidectomy may be judged on a case by case basis.
