Clinical and economic burden of respiratory syncytial virus in children aged 0 –5 years in Italy
ConclusionsThese findings derived from the real clinical practice in Italy confirmed that RSV has an important epidemiological, clinical, and economic burden among children aged 0 –5 years. While the complex management of at-risk infants was confirmed, our data also highlighted the significant impact of RSV infection in infants born at term or otherwise healthy, demonstrating that all infants need protection against RSV disease, reducing then the risk of medium and long-ter m complications, such as wheezing and asthma. An epidemiological investigation of high-risk infants for Respiratory Syncytial Virus infections: a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionsThe assessment of the study clinical outcomes highlighted that, the demographic and clinical characteristics at birth of the study cohorts influence their level of vulnerability to RSV and URA infections. As such, continuous monitoring of these populations is necessary in order to ensure a timely organization of health care system able to respond to their needs in the future. The specialized pediatric palliative care service in Italy: how is it working? Results of the nationwide PalliPed study
ConclusionsThe results obtained show how training, information, and research interventions are still necessary for the reorganization of the available resources and definition of proper strategies to respond dynamically to the new emerging needs of these populations. At the same time, our study represents a first step in defining a national registry of PPC models, useful for monitoring evolutions, and critical issues and planning any new or corrective strategy. An association between heart rate variability and pediatric obstructive sleep apnea
There are different findings on heart rate variability (HRV) and pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (pOSA) by an overnight HRV or a 1-hr HRV. However, there is limited data of HRV and pOSA diagnosis by using a ... (Source: Italian Journal of Pediatrics)

Factors associated with hospitalization in a pediatric population of rural Tanzania: findings from a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionsThe higher risk of hospitalization for children without health insurance, and living far from the district capital underline the necessity to promote the implementation of primary care, particularly in small villages, and the establishment of an efficient emergency call and transport system. The observation of lower hospitalization risk for children attended by a pediatric trained staff confirm the necessity of preventing admissions for conditions that could be managed in other health settings, if timely evaluated. Italian guidelines for the management of irritable bowel syndrome in children and adolescents
AbstractThe irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder (FGID), whose prevalence has widely increased in pediatric population during the past two decades. The exact pathophysiological mechanism underlying IBS is still uncertain, thus resulting in challenging diagnosis and management. Experts from 4 Italian Societies participated in a Delphi consensus, searching medical literature and voting process on 22 statements on both diagnosis and management of IBS in children. Recommendations and levels of evidence were evaluated according to the grading of recommendations, assessment, development, and e...

Plasma metabolomic profile in orthostatic intolerance children with high levels of plasma homocysteine
ConclusionsThe levels of choline-related metabolites and glutamate –related metabolites changed significantly in orthostatic intolerance children with high levels of plasma homocysteine, and these changes were associated with the severity of illness. These results provided new light on the pathogenesis of orthostatic intolerance. (Source: Italian Journal of Pediatrics)
