CONCLUSION: The prevalence of potentially malignant oral lesions was similar to other findings in the medical literature, but with some differences in their epidemiological profile. It is important to highlight that these entities require further medical investigation, mainly erythroplakias, which showed high risk of malignization and the highest rate of clinical misdiagnosis. CONCLUSION: Both forms of classic and new BPD have a multifactorial etiology, but they are different among themselves. The anatomopathological diagnosis of new BPD may require morphometric analysis. Histopathological and morphometric alterations in this study preceded the need for oxygen for more than 28 days. Accordingly, our histopathological and morphometric findings would justify the establishment of treatment for BPD before the 28th day of life in premature neonates. In this study, 40 pregnant women with gestational age of approximately 25 weeks, prenatal diagnosis of non immune hydrops fetalis and suspected of human parvovirus B19 infection were studied between January 1999 and December 2005. Serology results and detection of DNA in the maternal serum, foetal serum and amniotic fluid confirmed that 20 pregnant women had been infected by human parvovirus B19. The ultrasound examination demonstrated foetal hydrops, anaemia, hepatosplenomegaly, ascites, cardiopathy and amniotic fluid disorders.
