Correlation between refraction and axial length in Albinos
CONCLUSION: The spherical component of the refraction decreases significantly with increasing axial length in albinos.PMID:38663224 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2024.104189 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Ophthalmic disqualification from the military services: Multicentric cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: The three main causes of ophthalmological disqualification were high ametropia, refractive surgery performed before the required age and keratoconus.PMID:38663225 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2024.104187 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Comparison of refractive outcomes obtained with two swept-source OCT-based optical biometers after cataract surgery: A study of 152 eyes
CONCLUSIONS: This study showed excellent correlation and agreement for the biometric measurements and the IOL power calculation with the SRK/T formula between both biometers.PMID:38663226 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2024.104186 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Intraocular foreign bodies in children: A retrospective case series
DISCUSSION: Open globe injuries associated with IOFB are severe and sight-threatening. Localization of the IOFB in the posterior segment has a worse prognosis. CT scan is mandatory, especially in children, as the trauma history is often missing. Retinal detachment and endophthalmitis appear to be the main prognostic factors requiring urgent specialized pediatric ophthalmology management.PMID:38636198 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2024.104188 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Effect of keratoplasty on the quality of life of keratoconus patients
In this study, we compare the quality of life of patients with keratoconus in the early (stages 1 and 2) or advanced (stages 3 and 4) stages of the Krumeich classification, as well as patients who have had keratoconus treated by keratoplasty. Quality of life was assessed using the NEI-VFQ 25 questionnaire, the most widely used for keratoconus. An aberrometric examination (OQAS®; HD Analyser, Visiometrics, Terrassa, Spain) was also performed to assess patients' quality of vision. Our results show that keratoplasty provides an improvement in quality of life compared with advanced-stage keratoconus in the areas of distance (...

Visual supplementation is an effective tool in cataract surgery counselling by eye-care practitioners
CONCLUSION: Pictorial aids add to the repository of tools available to eye-care practitioners and are low-cost, easy to implement, and can effectively augment existing preoperative counselling processes to ensure accurate and effective preoperative counselling of patients.PMID:38603893 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2024.104175 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Cognitive bias evaluation on the choice of treatment in common retinal disorders among retina specialists in 2023
CONCLUSION: The findings regarding the first and second line choices for the mentioned ocular disorders were found to agree with the findings of published literature currently used in practice, with a tendency to prefer ranibizumab as first line therapy for neovascular disorders and aflibercept as first line therapy for macular edema. In addition, there were no differences between choices for first and second line therapy for patients vs. ophthalmologists.PMID:38603895 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2024.104177 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)
