Contemporary teaching of restoration repair at dental schools in Germany – Close to universality and consistency
Conclusions The teaching of the repair of resin composite restorations is widespread in dental schools in Germany. Aspects of this teaching were found to be more consistent between dental schools than in previous surveys, albeit variation in operative techniques still exists. Clinical significance Graduates from dental schools in Germany may be found to be well equipped with the knowledge and skills to perform repairs of defective resin based composite restorations in clinical practice. Bone augmentation using autogenous bone versus biomaterial in the posterior region of atrophic mandibles: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion We conclude that biomaterials or autogenous bone are indicated for the reconstruction of the posterior mandibular atrophic region, without lowering implant survival. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Impact of tooth wear on masticatory performance
Conclusion This study showed that the degree of tooth wear could not be observed to have an effect on masticatory performance. Clinical significance On individual level an effect could be present but looking at a larger group of patients, the degree of tooth wear did not have a relation with masticatory performance as measured with a communition test (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Prevalence of reported percutaneous injuries on dentists: a meta-analysis
Conclusions A high PI prevalence among dentists was noticed, and most were caused by dental burs. These findings imply that PIs should be considered by every dentist and proper measures instituted to reduce their prevalence. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Critical quality evaluation of network meta-analyses in dental care
Conclusions The quality of NMA reporting was low in the dental field. An NMA with inadequate reporting reduces the end-user’s confidence on the quality of the reported results. The PRISMA Extension guideline is relatively new and should be used more extensively to improve reporting practices in the field of dental care. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Real-Time Binding Kinetic Analyses of the Interaction of the Dietary Stain Orange II with Dentin Matrix
Conclusion These results indicate a predominant role for collagen type I, which accounts for 90% of the organic protein matrix of teeth, for attracting dietary stains. Binding analyses indicate that the interaction is highly dissociable, and further binding is reduced following H2O2 treatment. Clinical significance This study provides new information regarding adsorption of dietary stains into tooth dentin, suggesting that they are attracted and moderately bound to the collagen type I matrix. This study also contributes valuable information for discussion for considering the effect of H2O2 on bleaching teeth and its influ...

Evaluation of dentin desensitization protocols on the dentinal surface and their effects on the dentin bond interface
Conclusions Desensibilize Nano P (G1) favored the bond strength of the adhesive system to dentin, increased the precipitation of residues, obliteration of dentinal tubules, and hybrid layer formation in comparison with other agents. Clinical relevance Desensitizers promote dentin obliteration, however, may affect dentin bonding. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Antibacterial efficacy of an endodontic sonic-powered irrigation system: an in vitro study
Conclusion With the use of 3% NaOCl, sonic-powered irrigant activation with EDDY tips did not provide additional advantage over SNI in killing Enterococcus faecalis from deep intraradicular dentin. Clinical Significance Both the sonic-powered root canal irrigant activation system and syringe needle irrigation can reduce intracanal bacteria load but are incapable of completely killing all bacteria that resided deep within the dentinal tubules of root canals infected with Enterococcus faecalis. Curing potential of experimental resin composites with systematically varying amount of bioactive glass: Degree of conversion, light transmittance and depth of cure
Conclusions Experimental composite materials containing bioactive glass showed a clinically acceptable degree of conversion and depth of cure. The degree of conversion and depth of cure were diminished by bioactive glass fillers in a dose-dependent manner, although light transmittance was similar among all of the experimental composites containing 5–40 wt% of bioactive glass. Clinical significance Reduced curing potential caused by the bioactive glass has possible consequences on mechanical properties and biocompatibility. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

OCT for early quality evaluation of tooth –composite bond in clinical trials
Conclusions In contrast to clinical evaluation, OCT revealed subtle adhesive defects directly after application that might interfere with clinical success. It was demonstrated that ER doesn’t decrease initial adhesion of SBU to dentin. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Prevalence of gingival recession and study of associated related factors in young UK adults
Conclusion Widespread recession and gingivitis with minimal periodontal disease was observed. Every participant exhibited at least one tooth with recession. Many teeth did not exhibit DH despite prevalent recession and severe erosive toothwear. Recession correlates to a number of oral and lifestyle variables. Clinical Significance Recession in young adults is multifactorial and highly prevalent. It can result in DH and consequential increase in demand for treatment relating to both pain and aesthetics. Further research is needed to understand the underlying aetiology to prevent recession occurring. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Polymerization shrinkage stresses in different restorative techniques for non-carious cervical lesions
Conclusion The restoration of NCCLs with bulk fill composite resulted in lower shrinkage stress in the gingival and incisal areas, followed by incremental techniques with the initial increment placed on the gingival wall. Clinical significance The non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) restored with bulk fill composite have a more favorable biomechanical behavior. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)
