Differential clustering of faecal and mucosa ‐associated microbiota in healthy individuals
ConclusionsAnalysis of faecal samples that have been transported at ambient temperature does not adequately reflect the colonic mucosa ‐associated microbiota in healthy individuals. These findings have implications for the interpretation of the previous literature, and may be specifically relevant to studies on Crohn's disease. This article is protected by copyright. Guidelines of prevention and treatment for alcoholic liver disease (2018, China)
Alcoholic liver disease (ALD), induced by long ‐term heavy alcohol consumption, encompasses a progressive clinical–histological spectrum of liver injuries from simple fatty liver to alcoholic hepatitis, hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis. Excessive alcohol consumption may lead to extensive hepatocellular necrosis, and in severe cases to liver fa ilure. (Source: Journal of Digestive Diseases)

Effect of high ‐fat, standard, and functional food meals on esophageal and gastric pH in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease and healthy subjects
ConclusionsHigh ‐fat meals increased EAE in patients with RE and NERD. Functional food could serve as adjuvant therapy in GERD patients. EAE was related to gastric acidity in RE patients. (Source: Journal of Digestive Diseases)

The role of dietary factors in inflammatory bowel diseases: new perspectives
The current review aimed to elucidate the role of diet in every stage of inflammatory bowel disease, from aspects of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Western diet, characterized by overconsumption of refined sugar, saturated fat and low consumption of dietary fiber, may partly be blamed for its pathogenesis. Some immune ‐modulated nutrients (fibers, monounsaturated fatty acids, n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamin D) exert their potential beneficial effects on gut microbiota and immune function, resulting in clinical remission and/or preventing relapse. However, data is limited to conclude optimal micro...

Emerging evidence supports grouping by location of early gastric carcinoma for appropriate clinical management in Chinese patients
Gastric cancer is common in China. At present, early detection with prompt resection of early gastric carcinoma (EGC) is crucial for improving patient's survival. Because of high heterogeneity of EGC in Chinese patients we reviewed recent clinicopathological and molecular evidence and proposed a grouping EGC in three subgroups according to their location for appropriate management. In group 1 (cardia), most patients with EGC in this small location were elderly men. The tumors originated in the cardiac mucosa with a high proportion of cases with slightly elevated gross patterns and intestinal adenocarcinoma histology with m...

Efficacy of Surgicel ® (Fibrillar) for preventing bleeding after endoscopic submucosal dissection for gastric epithelial tumors
ConclusionsCombination therapy with Surgicel and an H2RA decreased the rate of bleeding similarly to PPI. Adding Surgicel to H2RA could be considered for patients with bleeding tendencies, or who require continuous antiplatelet therapy to prevent bleeding after ESD. Optimizing first line 7 ‐day standard triple therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication: Prolonging treatment or adding bismuth: which is better?
ConclusionsAdding bismuth to the 7 ‐day STT did not result in an increase in the eradication rate. Extending the STT to 14 days, however, achieved a significantly higher eradication rate. Nevertheless, this did not achieve the targeted 90% eradication rate on intention‐to‐treat analysis. (Source: Journal of Digestive Diseases)
