The Effect of Latanoprost on Choroidal Vascularity Index in Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension
Précis: The choroidal vascularity index (CVI) is a new marker for the choroid. The decrease in CVI following latanoprost use can provide a better understanding of the pathogenesis of the posterior segment side effects of latanoprost such as cystoid macular edema and central serous choroidopathy. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the changes in the CVI, total choroidal area (TCA), stromal area (SA), luminal area (LA), and choroidal thickness (CT) following latanoprost therapy in patients with primary open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Materials and Methods: Patients with newly di...

Risk Factors for Trabeculotomy Failure in Primary Congenital Glaucoma
Conclusions: A higher baseline IOP, younger age, larger corneal diameter, and bilaterality were identified as risk factors for trabeculotomy failure in congenital glaucoma. The presence of one or more of these should be considered in the decision-making process when considering surgical options to manage glaucoma in these patients. (Source: Journal of Glaucoma)

One-Year Outcomes of Standalone XEN Gel Stent Versus Nonpenetrating Deep Sclerectomy
Précis: The nonpenetrating deep sclerectomy (NPDS) procedure resulted in significantly more surgical success than the standalone XEN gel stent procedure without differences in safety profile. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare surgical success and safety profile of NPDS and XEN gel stent. Methods: A retrospective chart review of 328 eyes of 282 patients who were scheduled for standalone XEN gel stent surgery (n=140) or NPDS (n=188) at Groupe Hospitalier Paris Saint-Joseph between January 2017 and December 2018 was conducted. Primary outcome measure was the proportion of surgical success 12...

Glaucoma Detection in Myopic Eyes: Structural and Vascular Assessment by Optic Coherence Tomography Methods
Précis: Retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness is helpful in the diagnosis of glaucoma in myopic eyes but neuroretinal rim (NRR) thickness is the most valuable measure. However, changes in optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) parameters are insufficient for the diagnosis of mild to moderate glaucoma in myopia. Purpose: To detect how a multimodal evaluation, which includes RNFL, NRR thickness, and optic nerve head (ONH) OCT-A, affects glaucoma diagnosis in myopic patients. Materials and Methods: Parameters of healthy myopic and myopic glaucoma eyes with an axial length of ≥24 mm were com...

Increased Risk of Ocular Hypertension in Patients With Cushing’s Disease
Conclusions: An increased risk of ocular hypertension was seen in CD and suggests that endogenous hypercortisolemia should be considered as part of the glaucoma assessment. This result warrants the discretion of both ophthalmologists and neuroendocrinologists. (Source: Journal of Glaucoma)

Association Between Risk of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Glaucoma: The Singapore Epidemiology of Eye Diseases Study
Précis: In this population-based, cross-sectional study of Indian and Malay adults in Singapore aged 40 years or above, intermediate or high risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) was associated with 50% higher odds of having glaucoma. Background/Aims: The relationship between OSA and glaucoma is unclear. We assessed the association between the risk of OSA and glaucoma in an Asian population. Materials and Methods: In this population-based, cross-sectional study, we included Indian and Malay adults aged 40 years or above recruited between 2011 and 2015. Glaucoma was assessed by trained ophthalmologists an...

Age-Related Changes in Intraocular Pressure: Japan Ningen Dock Study
Précis: The analysis of intraocular pressure by age using a mega database showed a consistent age-related intraocular pressure decrease. Purpose: To clarify the association between age and intraocular pressure (IOP), the IOP value by age was assessed using a large IOP database. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 103 health checkup institutions registered to the Japan Society of Ningen Dock, and included participants who underwent annual health checkups between April 2014 and March 2015. The inclusion criteria were as follows: complete data for IOP in eyes, body mass ind...

Partial Stenosis and Complete Punctal Closure Following Topical Netarsudil Use for Glaucoma
Conclusions: The use of topical netarsudil for glaucoma may lead to punctal stenosis and complete punctal closure. These side effects of netarsudil are relevant to therapeutic considerations for glaucoma patients. (Source: Journal of Glaucoma)

Relationship Between Optical Coherence Tomography and Anterior Chamber Depth After Pupillary Dilation in Primary Angle Closure Suspects
Précis: Anterior chamber depth (ACD) change after pupillary dilation is correlated with lens vault (LV) and anterior chamber width (ACW), as observed by swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) at both horizontal and vertical scans in patients with primary angle closure suspect and cataract. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the association between ACD and other anterior chamber parameters after pharmacological dilation in patients with primary angle closure suspect and cataract. Patients and Methods: SS-OCT was performed for 78 patients at baseline and 1 hour after pharmacologi...

Comparison of Intraocular Pressure Measurements With Goldmann Applanation Tonometry, Tonopen XL, and Pascal Dynamic Contour Tonometry in Patients With Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty
Conclusion: IOP as measured with both Tonopen and DCT was found to be higher than GAT in eyes that underwent DMEK surgery although the techniques showed a good correlation. After DMEK surgery, all 3 measurement techniques can be practical in routine postoperative examinations, however it is recommended to measure IOP with the same device during patient follow-up.
