Comparison of left ventricular volume and left ventricular ejection fraction by 2-dimensional echocardiography by Simpson’s method & real time 3-dimensional echocardiography in patients of normal conduction with normal left ventricular function, complete left bundle branch block with normal left ventricular function and with left ventricular dysfunction
ConclusionLVEF and LV volumes (LVEDV and LVESV) were higher by 2DE and significantly lesser by RT3DE, 2DE tends to calculate the LV volumes higher as it considers LV in the form of cylinder, which was statistically significant with 2DE and RT3DE. As RT3DE calculates LV volumes more accurately, RT3DE is more standardised method to calculate LV volumes in the presence of LBBB. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

ECG pattern resembling critical myocardial ischemia related to digoxin effect:—An unusual presentation at a crucial time!!
We report a case of a patient with a history of atrial fibrillation on digoxin who was in the peri-operative period after having undergone surgery for caecal gangrene. The patient had symptoms of acute onset severe intensity sub-sternal chest pain. The ECG performed immediately after the onset of pain revealed ST segment elevation in aVR and ST segment depression in multiple other leads often correlated with left main or proximal left anterior descending artery ischemia. Because of the risk of bleeding in loading anti-platelets and anti-coagulants, the patient was shifted to our center for an emergency angiogram which turn...

Relation between high sensitivity c-reactive protein(hs-CRP) and thromboembolic risk markers assessed by echocardiography in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation(NVAF)
ConclusionHigh-sensitivity C-reactive protein( hs-CRP) ≥4.5 mg/dl level is suggested as inflammatory marker to predict the risk of thromboembolism in patients with non-valvular AF. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Assessment of cardiovascular risk in patients with chronic kidney disease –a study from a tertiary care centre in south India
ConclusionNovel CVD risk score increases with progression of disease and may thus be a better index of CVD risk in patients with CKD in south Indian population. We recommend calculating each CKD patient’s global risk and risk based on novel risk factors and its documentation in their case records so as to guide risk factor intervention. Early bioprosthetic aortic valve endocarditis from dual bacterial pathogens including a HACEK microorganism (Cardiobacterium hominis)
This article presents Bacillus thuringiensis, a new pathogen implicated in causing infective endocarditis, in combination with Cardiobacterium hominis, which has never been reported in a dual pathogen endocarditis scenario. This is the first reported case of dual pathogen HACEK endocarditis that was identified by the authors. Our patient presented with a subacute course of infective symptoms and investigations found prosthetic valve endocarditis with C. hominis and B. thuringiensis. This is the first instance where B. thuringiensis has been implicated in infective endocarditis, where it was thought to previously be non-path...
