Nurse-Led Motor Function Rehabilitation Program for Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Randomized Pilot Study
This article was designed to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of implementing a nurse-led motor function rehabilitation program on patients with acute ischemic stroke. Methods From January to October 2018, patients with initial acute ischemic stroke were assigned to one of two groups using a pilot randomized controlled trial design, with one group receiving a nurse-led motor function intervention program developed based on Orem's theory (7 consecutive days, twice daily for 30 minutes, experimental group) and the other receiving usual care (control group). The effectiveness measures included changes in the ...

Effect of 0.12% Chlorhexidine Oral Rinse on Preventing Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia in Nonventilator Inpatients
Conclusions/Implications for Practice Although the results do not provide evidence supporting the use of a 0.12% chlorhexidine oral rinse as better in terms of preventing NV-HAP in middle-aged and elderly inpatients, nursing supervision was found to have an overall positive effect on oral health. The use of oral rinse with 0.12% chlorhexidine for nonventilated patients with poor oral health may be recommended. (Source: Journal of Nursing Research)

Lived Experience of Breast Cancer Survivors: A Phenomenological Study
Conclusions/Implications for Practice The experiences and themes identified enhance scholarly understanding regarding the experience of survivors of BrCa. A true understanding of this experience enables healthcare providers to craft and deliver appropriate interventions that provide quality care and improve women's health, thereby enhancing their quality of life. The results of this study may contribute to the development of new theories by using different qualitative approaches such as grounded theory. (Source: Journal of Nursing Research)

Examining the Needs-Based Time Use of Chinese Nursing Assistants: A Time–Motion Study
Conclusions Because of their lack of formal nursing training and skills, NAs pay more attention to meeting the physiological needs of residents while ignoring their mental needs. Moreover, their effectiveness in providing spiritual care tends to be quite low. Furthermore, the NA nursing activity classification system based on the Zuluaga–Raysmith model developed in this study is applicable for designing nursing work tasks, organizing NH units, and improving the quality of life of residents, as this model accurately reflects the essence of NA work. Validation of the Nurse Managers' Work Content Questionnaire and Factors―A Structural Equation Modeling Study
Conclusions The NMWCQ version assessed in this study shows a more robust structure than the previously published pilot version. Psychometric testing showed the NMWCQ as suitable for describing the diverse work requirements of nurse managers and may offer a framework for concretizing the job description of nurse managers. Association Between Role Overload and Sleep Quality Among Chinese First-Line Nurses During the COVID-19 Outbreak: The Moderating Effect of Mindfulness
Conclusions The high risk of sleep disturbance among frontline nurses may be alleviated by reducing their perceived role overload. The identification of mindfulness as a moderating mechanism in the relationship between role overload and sleep quality provides new insights to improve sleep quality in nurses. Experiences of COVID-19-Related Stigma: A Qualitative Study on Nurses Caring for Patients With COVID-19
Conclusions/Implications for Practice The participants internalized their experiences of stigma, as Japanese culture emphasizes keeping such things to oneself. Therefore, there is an urgent need to strengthen the support system for nurses who care for patients with COVID-19. This study addressed the problem of the stigmatization of these nurses and their families by others as well as their colleagues. The main findings were that stigma was directly experienced as discrimination and prejudice and often resulted in self-imposed coping behavior. The major implication of these findings is the need to establish systematic, ...

Placing Care: The Impact of the Physical Environment on Experiences of Providing and Utilizing Palliative Care
Conclusions Hospital design for palliative and end-of-life care in Nigeria is “autoinhibitory” (a negative feedback mechanism whereby hospital design detracts rather than promote quality of care), and a physical environment that supports the provision and utilization of care must be implemented to promote palliative and end-of-life care success. Urgent policy action is needed to improve environmental and staffing conditions to advance palliative and end-of-life care in Nigeria. (Source: Journal of Nursing Research)

Exploring Meaning of Life in Women With Breast Cancer in Taiwan: A Phenomenological Study
Conclusions The participants identified the most pivotal aspect of healing as transforming their pain and accepting value for their suffering. They acknowledged they could not change the fact that they had cancer, but they could learn to accept it as part of their lived experience. Healthcare professionals may use these four themes at a clinically appropriate time on women's journeys toward healing to inspire women with breast cancer to process their own unique “meaning of life.” (Source: Journal of Nursing Research)
