Agreement Between Actigraphy and Diary ‐Recorded Measures of Sleep in Children With Epilepsy
ConclusionsOur study demonstrates an acceptable agreement between actigraphy and diary recordings for sleep onset, sleep offset, and daytime sleep, but insufficient agreement for actual sleep at night and wake after sleep onset, with parents of children sleeping alone more likely to misestimate child sleep behaviors. Deviation of weekend sleep from weekdays further decreased the accuracy of parental sleep estimates and increased the discrepancies between actigraphy and diary. Clinical RelevanceSleep in children with epilepsy assessed using diary recordings alone could be misleading, and actigraphy should be preferred over ...

Technology Experience of Solid Organ Transplant Patients and Their Overall Willingness to Use Interactive Health Technology
ConclusionsBy investigating Tx patients’ possession and use of ICTs, we learned that computers and the Internet, and not smartphones, are the most suitable IHT platforms to deliver self‐management interventions for our Tx patients. Moreover, Tx patients generally are open to using IHT, yet patient acceptance variables and their preferences for certain IHT features should be taken into account in the next steps of IHT development. Designers intending to develop or use existing IHTs should never overlook this critical first step in a human‐centered design. Clinical RelevanceBefore considering using eHealth technology i...

Improving ‐Omics‐Based Research and Precision Health in Minority Populations: Recommendations for Nurse Scientists
ConclusionsMany opportunities exist for nurses to increase their knowledge in ‐omics and to continue to build the ranks of nurse scientists as leaders in ‐omics‐based research. In order to work successfully with communities of color, nurse scientists must advocate for participation in the Precision Medicine Initiative, improve representation of nurse faculty of color, and increase utilization of training programs in ‐omics and lead such initiatives. Clinical RelevanceAll nursing care has the potential to be affected by the era of ‐omics and precision health. By taking an inclusive approach to diversity in nursing...

Building Innovation and Sustainability in Programs of Research
ConclusionsInnovation is an important component of sustainable programs of research. Understanding the social and political context and addressing relevant policy issues are factors to be considered in both innovation and sustainability. Clinical RelevanceInnovation and sustainability, important components of research, are also central to clinical practice. Open communication between researchers and clinicians can support the acceleration of innovations and the integration of evidence‐based findings in practice. (Source: Journal of Nursing Scholarship)

Nursing Gender Pay Differentials in the New Millennium
ConclusionsFindings support preferential wages for men in nursing, more so than for men in teaching. Clinical RelevanceThe substantial gender disparities are an indirect measure of the misallocation of resources in effective patient care. (Source: Journal of Nursing Scholarship)

A Review of Current Literature on Vital Sign Assessment of Physical Activity in Primary Care
ConclusionsPreliminary evidence on the validity of both the EVS and PAVS tools support cautious use of each as a screening tool in primary care. There were no data on reliability, with limited data on tool use in diverse populations or settings. Data in children, older adults, and diverse population subgroups were lacking. Clinical RelevanceTwo brief exercise vital signs tools have each shown some initial validity for use by primary care clinicians as measures to identify patients not meeting PA guidelines. Classification of Heat ‐Related Illness Symptoms Among Florida Farmworkers
ConclusionsFarmworkers reported a high burden of HRI symptoms that appear to cluster in physiologic patterns. Unrecognized accumulation of symptoms can escalate into life‐threatening situations if untreated. Our research can inform interventions to promote early recognition of HRI, on‐site care, and appropriate occupational health policy. Administrative or engineering workplace controls may also reduce the manifestation of HRI. Clinical RelevanceThis study advances the current knowledge of HRI symptoms in farmworkers and moves beyond reporting individual symptoms by utilizing latent class analysis to identify how sympt...

Scope of Nursing Practice in a Tertiary Pediatric Setting: Associations With Nurse and Job Characteristics and Job Satisfaction
ConclusionsSpecific aspects of nurses’ jobs are closely related to ESOP. ESOP is limited by certain job and personal characteristics and appears to affect nurses’ job satisfaction. Clinical RelevanceResults suggest that ESOP might be improved by adjusting nursing job characteristics and practice environments and that expanding ESOP increases nurse job satisfaction and may improve other health system outcomes as well.
