The Nurse ‐Engineer: A New Role to Improve Nurse Technology Interface and Patient Care Device Innovations
AbstractPurposeThe purpose of this article is to describe two innovative biomedical engineering and nursing collaborations designed to educate a new cadre of professionals and develop new knowledge and innovations (robots, patient care devices, and computer simulation).Organizing ConstructComplex health problems demand a highly skilled response that uses teams of professionals from various disciplines. When the biomedical engineering lens is expanded to include the practical perspective of nursing, opportunities emerge for greater technology –nurse interface and subsequent innovation. A joint nursing‐engineering degree...

Comfort and Attitudes Towards Robots Among Young, Middle ‐Aged, and Older Adults: A Cross‐Sectional Study
ConclusionsOlder, middle ‐aged, and younger adults had similar attitudes regarding the social impact of and comfort with robots; they also had similar negative attitudes towards robots. Findings dispel current perceptions that older adults are not as receptive to robots as other adults. This has implications for nurses wh o integrate supportive robots in their practice.Clinical RelevanceNurses working in clinical and community roles can use these findings when developing and implementing robotic solutions. Understanding attitudes towards robots can support how, where, and with whom robots can be used in nursing practice....

Migrants ’ Healthcare Experience: A Meta‐Ethnography Review of the Literature
ConclusionsFrom the findings, a model has been designed using the five dimensions and grounded in a person ‐centered care approach. This may help healthcare providers to identify weak points, as well as to improve the organization and healthcare professionals’ ability to provide person‐centered care to migrant patients.Clinical RelevanceThe proposed model facilitates identification of points of weakness in the care of migrant patients. Employing a person ‐centered care approach may contribute to improve health outcomes for migrant patients. (Source: Journal of Nursing Scholarship)

Collaborative Framework to Advance Symptom Science: An Intramural Perspective
ConclusionsThrough using the NIH SSM as a guide, NINR investigators quickly generate data and discoveries that significantly advance symptom science by simultaneously collaborating with multiple experts and core laboratories to identify more correlates and validate their functional relevance in order to further understand the biological underpinnings of the symptoms of interest.Clinical RelevanceThe collaborative framework used by NINR investigators as guided by the NIH SSM identifies functionally relevant clinical markers that can explain the biological underpinnings of symptoms and can be targeted to optimize symptom man...

Genomic Literacy of Registered Nurses and Midwives in Australia: A Cross ‐Sectional Survey
ConclusionsThe genomic literacy of registered nurses and midwives in Australia is low. More must be done to ensure Australian registered nurses and midwives have an adequate level of genomic literacy to provide optimal care to patients, their families, and the community.Clinical RelevanceModern medicine requires a healthcare workforce that is literate in genomics. Findings from this study may serve as the catalyst to improve the genomic literacy of the Australian nursing and midwifery workforce, allowing for improved health outcomes for individuals and the wider Australian public.
