Rare form of extraovarian peritoneal serous papillary carcinoma with solitary tumor in the abdominal wall: A case report and literature review

Cases of cancer presenting with microscopically confirmed metastatic malignancies for which no primary site can be detected are a challenge to stage clinically. Adenocarcinoma of unknown primary site is a subtype with high frequency that has no standard treatment and a poor prognosis. A 32-year-old female was found to have a tumor in the abdominal wall. Tumorectomy was conducted. A pathological examination indicated serous papillary adenocarcinoma, and peritoneal or ovarian cancer was suspected. Exploratory laparotomy and partial resection of the ovaries were carried out, but there were no malignant findings in the periton...

Conclusions: Thrombophilia was identified in more than one-quarter (26.6% = 107/402) of the RPL subjects. APC-R not caused by FVL mutation was the most common thrombophilia marker in Malaysians, whereas in Caucasians it was the APC-R due to FVL mutation. The identification of FVL and PTG mutations in Malaysian women with RPL disputes prevailing evidences suggesting its non-occurrence in patients with Asian ancestries. We report a primigravida with Alport syndrome with mild proteinuria who gave birth abdominally to a term male infant without deteriorating renal function during pregnancy. Women with Alport syndrome without renal dysfunction may follow an uneventful obstetrical course until term. The cord may not be suitable for diagnosing Alport syndrome with immunofluorescence staining. (Source: Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research)

We report the case of a patient who was 37 years old and had an abdominal myomectomy. Afterwards, Escherichia coli infection was detected and intravenous antibiotics were administered. Careful intracervical mass reduction and curettage were performed under abdominal ultrasound guidance. The postoperative course was uneventful and she gave birth by cesarean section at 38 weeks. Sixteen cases exist in the literature. Treatment of cervical pregnancy was performed by KCl injection in six ...

We describe the first case of RDD with bilateral ovarian involvement in a patient implanted with a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt. The patient was a 17-year-old Japanese woman who had undergone radiotherapy, surgery for extranodal RDD involving the brain, and VP shunt insertion at age 12. Bilateral pelvic masses were incidentally detected on a computed tomography scan. She underwent laparotomy for lesion extirpation. On abdominal washing cytology, histiocytes showing emperipolesis were identified. Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed instead of extirpation, as it was difficult to identify the lesion margins. At 2...

A unique case of fallopian tube herniation into the endometrial cavity after dilatation and curettage is presented. During these procedures, herniation of the right tube and infundibulopelvic ligament into the uterine cavity were observed. The herniation was repaired through a minilaparotomy incision. The mass was removed laparoscopically. Endometriosis was confirmed histologically. If endometrioma in a patient with Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome is associated with a small rudimentary unicornis uterus with a small endometrial cavity, endometriosis can be assumed to have developed by retrograde menstruation theory. Because the patient ...

We report an interesting case of a free peritoneal cyst in a woman pregnant with twins. As far as we know, a cyst with histologic properties similar to the metaplastic stratified squamous epithelium of the amnion has not been reported. A 20-year-old Japanese woman pregnant with twins underwent cesarean section at 29 weeks of gestation. A simple serous cyst 5 cm in diameter was found at excavatio vesicouterina. The cyst was not attached to the surrounding organs, and was located independent of any other tissues in the patient's abdominal cavity. Histologic examination revealed that the cyst wall was composed of three major ...

In case 2, elevated urine production was noted prior to progressive polyhydroamnios and congestive heart failure in the new recipient and the fetoscopic laser photocoagulation of the placental communicating vessels was performed successfully before the criteria for TTTS were fulfil...

Stroke during pregnancy or the puerperium is an extremely rare yet serious cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging and angiography revealed acute ischemic lesions in the right hemisphere along with the steno-occlusive lesions of bilateral terminal portions of the intern...

The concentrations of CA125 and CA19-9 were 548.1 and 7604 IU/mL, respectively. On the second day of admission, an exploratory laparoscopy was performed, which revealed a ruptured left ovarian cyst consistent with an endometrioma. A laparoscopic left adnexectomy was therefore performed. The histological examination of the specimen confirmed the d...

Conclusions: hCG significantly inhibited in vitro detrusor contractions induced by depolarization (KCl) and cholinergic (carbachol) but not purinergic ([alpha],[beta]-methylene ATP) stimulation in a dose-dependent manner in female rats. (Source: Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research)

In this report, a 43-year-old woman with lymphangioma of the ovary accompanied by chylous ascites is described. Vaginal ultrasound showed a solid cystic tumor at the right ovary accompanied by ascites. The volume of ascites was changeable. Milky fluid obtained by Douglas pouch aspiration contained numerous mature lymphocytes. She underwent right salpingo-oophorectomy. Histological examination revealed that the excised tumor from the right ovary was consistent with benign lymphangioma. This is the first case report of lymphangioma of the ovary accompanied by chylous ascites. We should discriminate such cases from other mali...

We present the case of a 39-year-old woman with a subfascial abscess. The patient had undergone radical hysterectomy for stage Ib1 cervical cancer. Six months after the surgery, she was found to have an elevated concentration of the serum squamous cell carcinoma antigen. Thereafter, she underwent magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography[ndash]computed tomography. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an irregular mass (diameter: 2 cm) in the abdominal wall. Increased 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake into the mass was observed on positron emission tomography. Therefore, we could not rule out the possibility of...

Ehlers[ndash]Danlos syndrome (EDS) type IV is an autosomal dominantly inherited connective tissue disorder caused by abnormal type III collagen resulting from heterogenous mutations of the type III procollagen gene (COL3A1). The maternal mortality rate per pregnancy in EDS type IV has been reported as 11.5% to 25%. A 30-year-old Japanese primiparous woman, with a brother who had suffered a bowel rupture due to EDS type IV, became pregnant. She also suffered from myocardial infarction due to coronary artery dissections at 24 years old, and underwent coronary artery bypass grafting. Due to uncontrollable uterine contractions...

We report the case of a pregnant woman who suffered from hypotension after first exposure to intravenous administration of a combination drug containing vitamins B1, B6 and B12 (Vitamedin; Daiichi-Sankyo, Tokyo, Japan). A 27-year-old Japanese woman received an intravenous infusion of fluid containing a vitamin B complex due to hyperemesis gravidarum. Thirty minutes after the start of infusion she was found to be in hypotension. The patient had stupor, general sweating, blood pressure of 82/50 mmHg, and low percutaneous oxygen saturation (SpO2) of 88%. We immediately stopped the infusion, lifted her legs and administered ox...
