The Leveling Effectiveness of Self-ligating and Conventional Brackets for Complex Tooth Malalignments
Email this article to a colleague.
Save this article to My Clippings.
Discuss or comment on this article.
Conclusions:
This study’s results demonstrate that bracket selection has a negligible influence on leveling effectiveness. Although self-ligating
brackets are easier for the orthodontist to manipulate and provide patients with esthetic and wearing comfort advantages,
they are not superior to conventional brackets in terms of their biomechanical characteristics.

Comparison of the Spatial Landmark Scatter of Various 3D Digitalization Methods

Conclusions
This study demonstrates that the landmarks’ precision and reproducibility are determined by the complexity of the reference-model
surface as well as the digital surface quality and individual ability of each evaluator to capture 3D spatial relationships.
The differences in the 3D-landmark scatter values and lowest maximum 3D-landmark scatter between the best and the worst methods
showed minor differences. The measurement results in this study reveal that it is not the method’s precision but rather the
complexity of the object analysis being planned that should determine which method is ulti...

Conclusions
Asymmetry, especially in the midface, appears to detract from how facial appearance is self-perceived and perceived by others,
which explains the primary desire for or need of nose correction. The self-perception of patients affected by CLP does not
correlate with objective results or how others perceive them. Clinicians should be open to adult patients’ requests for correction,
but the patient‘s self-perception should also be critically explored.

Conclusions
Vertical PDL distraction is a minimally-invasive therapy to align ankylosed impacted canines. Even if the long-term prognosis
of distracted canines with defects is uncertain, the patient benefits from the vertical PDL distraction because both hard
and soft tissues are generated in the vicinity of the distracted canine.

Conclusions
The new measure introduced in this study provides a practice-oriented parameter with which to predict the treatment time for

at 40%. Individual bone density and metabolism seem to have a strong influence on treatment time and must be taken into account
for a more exact prognosis.

Conclusion:
Significant differences in the bone-to-screw contact between the two groups are no longer in evidence after three months due
to new bone formation. The minor extent of bone remodeling in the not pre-drilled group rules out substantial bone damage,
which might have occurred during screw placement as a result of “cracks” or an excessive increase in pressure along the interface.
The similar rate of new bone formation in both groups speaks against a stimulating effect of pre-drilling. Despite the absence
of quantitative differences, it remains unclear whether the mechanical quality of the newly...

Biomechanics of the Keles Slider Appliance for Maxillary Molar Distalization – In-vitro Analysis of Force Systems

Conclusions:
The Keles Slider nearly achieves translatory molar distalization on a typodont in the sagittal plane. As a result, no uprighting
activation is necessary for treatment. Because force application occurs palatally from the molars' center of resistance, there
is a mesial-inward rotating moment that increases as distalization progresses, and this may lead to unwanted friction during
clinical application. This is why regular reactivation of the coil spring systems, as well as subsequent measures for molar
derotation, are indispensable. In the vertical plane, the molars are exposed to weak extrusive ...

We have demonstrated that the cortical thickness is a decisive parameter for the stability of these mini-implants. When the

It is also a recognized fact that diabetes mellitus is closely associated with diverse problems in the oral, facial and jaw

Corrosion Susceptibility and Nickel Release of Nickel Titanium Wires during Clinical Application
Email this article to a colleague.

Conclusions:
Increased Ni ions are released initially after the orthodontic devices have been fitted, but they decay quickly. This is reflected
in miniscule corrosion defects as pitting. It is unlikely that orthodontic nickel titanium wires are a relevant additional
Ni load for the patient.

Conclusions:
Changes in society are always reflected in health care, therefore knowledge management is important. This study demonstrates
a method for gaining explicit knowledge about patient satisfaction, which facilitates practice management and can be done
quickly.

Conclusions:
In those not orthodontically treated, malocclusion tended to worsen, although 18 of the 21 persons expressed satisfaction
with their teeth as adults. They had a higher average number of missing teeth, and more had TMJ problems than the control
group with normal occlusion.

Conclusion:
Since the fundamental frequency and analysis of the first formant have proven to be suitable parameters for the analytical
description of the vocal timbre of cleft patients, our results provide a solid basis for further studies. We provided evidence
that this investigatory method is also effective when considering time and equipment requirements.

Conclusions:
We observed an overall correlation between the frequency of malocclusions and severity of mental retardation. The amount of
orthodontic treatment was significantly higher in the younger group (32.3%) than the older group (0%). In diagnostic terms,
orthodontic treatment should follow the general guidelines, namely, the recommendation of removable devices as treatment appliances,
and multidisciplinarily speaking, modified sequences of myofunctional therapy in consideration of the individual compliance
prognosis and parental cooperation [2]. In the multidisciplinary coordination of rehabilitation...

Conclusions:
This new technique of symmetry analysis reveals that the noses of 10-year-old patients with complete unilateral cleft lip
and palate who had not undergone revisional surgery present a measurable and significant degree of asymmetry, while the upper
lip is symmetrical as a consequence of interdisciplinary treatment by orthodontists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Further
3D analyses on larger numbers of patients will allow more comprehensive and consistent analysis of the potential and limitations
of various surgical and conservative methods so as to identify those techniques with the best ...
