The 2009/10 MLA election is now underway! Official candidate information for the 2009/10 election is available on MLANET. An abridged form of the candidate information also appears in the November/December 2008 MLA News. Members with email addresses on file at MLA headquarters were sent an election email on November 6. The goal of this program is to provide a basic understanding of disaster planning and service continuity, assess the effect of disaster on health sciences library services, and provide a basic template for disaster planning. MLA has secured a block of rooms at the Hotel Orrington, 1710 Orrington Avenue, Evanston, IL. The Medical Library Association group rate is: single/double, $209; triple, $219; and quad, $229 plus tax. Including tax, the total cost for a single/double is $235.87 per night. New "Plain Language" Deciphering Medspeak Brochure Now Available

The Medical Library Association (MLA) is pleased to announce that a plain language version of its popular Deciphering Medspeak brochure is now available. The brochure, Medspeak in Plain Language, offers the same information as the original but is written specifically for low literacy consumers. Rewritten with the help of the Massachusetts Health Sciences Library Network's (MAHSLIN's) Working Group for Health Literacy, the Medspeak in Plain Language version contains a glossary of medical terms described in language that is easier for consumers with fifth-grade or higher reading levels to understand.
