The U.S. National Library of Medicine, in reply to several recent national emergencies launched an emergency planning initiative resulting in the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan for health sciences libraries. The National Network of Libraries of Medicine MidContinental Region, in support of this plan, is sponsoring up to two awards to subsidize travel to an emergency planning conference before the end of April, 2010.

On Saturday, Nov 14, 2009 some NLM systems are expected to be down due to electrical maintenance. The systems expected to be down are: DOCLINE, Loansome Doc, Locator Plus, HsrProj, HSRR, Images from the History of Medicine, and UMLS KSS. You may want to alert your Loansome Doc users about the down time.

MedlinePlus has released a new version of the A.D.A.M. Medical Encyclopedia that includes approximately 400 new Patient Instruction (PI) pages. The content provides information on pre-operative information and instructions, discharge instructions, self-care instructions, and questions to ask your doctor.
The PI pages are available in both English and Spanish, and can be located in the MedlinePlus search engine and A-Z index pages for the encyclopedia.
