Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 6773: Construction of a Collagen-like Protein Based on Elastin-like Polypeptide Fusion and Evaluation of Its Performance in Promoting Wound Healing
Ye Xinmiao Liang In the healing of wounds, human-like collagen (hCol) is essential. However, collagen-based composite dressings have poor stability in vivo, which severely limits their current therapeutic potential. Based on the above, we have developed a recombinant fusion protein named hCol-ELP, which consists of hCol and an elastin-like peptide (ELP). Then, we examined the physicochemical and biological properties of hCol-ELP. The results indicated that the stability of the hCol-ELP fusion protein exhibited a more compact and homogeneous lamellar microstructure along with collagen properties, it was found to be s...

Reminder: NIH Natural Disaster Policies
NIH is deeply concerned for the health and safety of people and animals, and about the biomedical enterprise in the areas of the country affected by recent natural disasters and emergencies. Due to the exceptional impact of t natural disasters and emergencies, NIH wants to assure our recipient community that we will be doing our part to help the extramural community continue its research. NIH has issued a reminder notice identifying policy exceptions for impacted organizations to relieve short-term administrative, financial management, and audit requirements.    Our website on Extramural Response to Natural...

HEAL Initiative: Research to Increase Implementation of Substance Use Preventive Services (R61/R33 Clinical Trial Optional)
Funding Opportunity RFA-DA-24-066 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The importance of prevention in combatting the opioid crisis is clear identifying and implementing effective strategies to prevent the onset of opioid misuse and use disorder and reducing the need to treat disorders yields positive individual, societal, and financial benefits. In 2020, 9.5 million people aged 12 or older misused opioids in the past year (NSDUH, 2021), suggesting that there are millions of people whose trajectories could have been changed, had they been exposed to an effective prevention strategy. Currently funded HEAL studies a...

Cytochrome P450 Mediated Cyclization in Eunicellane Derived Diterpenoid Biosynthesis
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Sep 21:e202312490. doi: 10.1002/anie.202312490. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTerpene cyclization, one of the most complex chemical reactions in nature, is generally catalyzed by two classes of terpene cyclases (TCs). Cytochrome P450s that act as unexpected TC-like enzymes are known but are very rare. Here, we genome-mined a cryptic bacterial terpenoid gene cluster, named ari, from the thermophilic actinomycete strain Amycolatopsis arida. By employing a heterologous production system, we isolated and characterized three highly oxidized eunicellane derived diterpenoids, aridacins A-C (1-3), that...

Photocatalytic Free Radical-Controlled Synthesis of High-Performance Single-Atom Catalysts
In this study, we present a straightforward approach for preparing SACs utilizing a photocatalytic radical control strategy. Notably, we demonstrate for the first time that radicals generated during the photochemical process effectively hinder the aggregation of individual atoms. By leveraging the cooperative anchoring of nitrogen atoms and crystal lattice oxygen on the support, we successfully stabilize the single atom. Our Pd1/TiO2 catalysts exhibit remarkable catalytic activity and stability in the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction, which was 43 times higher than Pd/C. Furthermore, we successfully depose Pd atoms o...
