Huntington's disease in Chile: epidemiological and genetic aspects
Introduction: Huntington ’s disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative, autosomal dominant disabling condition due to an expansion of the CAG trinucleotide in the HTT gene. Motor, psychiatric, and cognitive disorders characterize it. Chilean reports on HD in the era of molecular diagnosis were wanted. Methods: This is a retrospe ctive analysis of a prospective cohort of patients with HD seen at the Center for Movement Disorders (CETRAM) in Chile between 2013 and 2019. Sociodemographic, genotype, and neuropsychiatric features were investigated. Results: One hundred-three proband with HD were identified. The majority (63.1%) were...

Odds of Medical Comorbidities in Essential Tremor: Retrospective Analysis of a Large Claims Database in the United States
Conclusion: A number of recent studies, including our own, suggest that psychiatric, neurologic and stress-related disorders may be more prevalent amo ng ET patients than controls. Additional differences in the prevalence of a range of medical comorbidities have also been variably reported across studies, suggesting that some combination of these might be more prevalent. Further studies would be of value in sorting through these associations. (Source: Neuroepidemiology)

Prevalence and Mortality Risk of Neurological Disorders during the COVID-19 Pandemic: An Umbrella Review of the Current Evidence
Conclusion: Our results show that the preva lence and mortality risk may increase in some neurological diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic. Future studies should elucidate the precise mechanisms for the link between COVID-19 and neurological diseases, determine which patient characteristics predispose them to neurological diseases, and cons ider potential global patient management. Is there horizontal transmission of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease?
CONCLUSION: Israel has a high predominance of f-CJD compared to s-CJD. The mean incidence rate of s-CJD in Israel is similar to most countries. Between 1985 and 2018, the annual age adjusted incidence rates for both forms of CJD remaine d stable. Thus, there is no evidence that CJD is transmitted from affected individuals to others. Incidence, Prevalence, Hospitalization Rates, and Treatment Patterns in Myasthenia Gravis: A 10-Year Real-World Data Analysis of German Claims Data
Conclusion: This is the first study on MG prevalence and incidence rates in Germany. Data show an increase in prevalence by 1.8-fold over 10 years. Decreasing incidence and hospitalization rates in 2020 hint at the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Treatment patterns in MG are changing with the advent of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies in this indication. (Source: Neuroepidemiology)

Age gap between stroke patients included in randomized clinical trials of acute revascularization therapy and those in population-based studies. A review
Background: The ongoing aging population in high-income countries is responsible for a dramatic rise in the number of elderly stroke patients in whom many questions remain regarding the use of acute revascularization therapy. This review aimed to compare stroke patients from population-based studies to those included in RCTs in terms of age. Summary: Population-based incidence studies conducted in high income that complied with the defined quality criteria were reviewed (period 1985-2020). RCTs of acute ischemic stroke therapy including intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) with either alteplase or tenecteplase and mechanical th...

The epidemiology of moderate and severe traumatic brain injury in Central Norway
Conclusion: The overall incidence and mortality rate for msTBI in Central Norway was low but increased from age 70, and among those ≥80 years of age with severe TBI, nearly all died. Overall estimates are strongly influenced by high incidence and mortality rates in the e lderly, and studies should therefore report age-specific estimates, for better comparison of incidence and mortality rates.
