Daytime Aspartame Intake Results in Larger Influences on Body Weight, Serum Corticosterone Level, Serum/Cerebral Cytokines Levels and Depressive-Like Behaviors in Mice than Nighttime Intake
In this study, healthy adult C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into four groups: Control group (CON), oral gavage sham group (OGS), daytime APM intragastric group (DAI) and nighttime APM intragastric group (NAI). DAI and NAI groups were given 80mg/kg body weight daily for 4 weeks. We found that DAI and NAI groups had significantly increased mean body weight, higher serum corticosterone levels, up-regulated pro-inflammatory responses in serum and brain, and exacerbated depressive-like behaviors than the CON and the two APM intake groups. Moreover, all these changes induced by APM intake were more significant in the DAI gro...

Manganese accumulation in red blood cells as a biomarker of manganese exposure and neurotoxicity
Neurotoxicology. 2024 Mar 10;102:1-11. doi: 10.1016/j.neuro.2024.03.003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough overexposure to manganese (Mn) is known to cause neurotoxic damage, effective exposure markers for assessing Mn loading in Mn-exposed workers are lacking. Here, we construct a Mn-exposed rat model to perform correlation analysis between Mn-induced neurological damage and Mn levels in various biological samples. We combine this analysis with epidemiological investigation to assess whether Mn concentrations in red blood cells (MnRBCs) and urine (MnU) can be used as valid exposure markers. The results show that Mn e...

Agmatine mitigates behavioral abnormalities and neurochemical dysregulation associated with 3-Nitropropionic acid-induced Huntington's disease in rats
Neurotoxicology. 2024 Mar 5:S0161-813X(24)00022-6. doi: 10.1016/j.neuro.2024.03.002. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHuntington's disease (HD) is a progressive neurodegenerative condition characterized by a severe motor incoordination, cognitive decline, and psychiatric complications. However, a definitive cure for this devastating disorder remains elusive. Agmatine, a biogenic amine, has gain attention for its reported neuromodulatory and neuroprotective properties. The present study was designed to examine the influence of agmatine on the behavioral, biochemical, and molecular aspects of HD in an animal model. A mitochondr...

Organophosphorus pesticide exposure from house dust and parent-reported child behavior in Latino children from an orchard community
CONCLUSION: The data support a potential role of OP exposure in childhood development, with a specific focus on internalizing behavior. Future work focused on longitudinal studies may uncover the long-term consequences of OP exposure and behavior.PMID:38453034 | DOI:10.1016/j.neuro.2024.03.001 (Source: Neurotoxicology)
