Recent studies of dietary habits in children and adolescents performed in Spain show that a high percentage of the daily energy intake corresponds to fat (42.0-43.0%). Sixteen male Wistar rats were divided into four groups where two were irradiated by X-rays from a 200 kV machine specially designed to biological samples. Conclusions: The use of HEN has increased dramatically in the last 16 years in Spain. Most of the patients registered were elderly people with neurological disorders and limited physical activity. We report the case of a patient with recurrent severe hypocalcemia, secondary to hypomagnesaemia, and prerenal renal failure, due to ileostomy losses after a colectomy, who needed several admissions to the hospital through more than one year. Finally, he was successfully treated by self-administered subcutaneous magnesium: he reached and maintained normal levels of serum calcium, magnesium and PTH, no more hospital admission were needed and he resumed a normal life.
