Evidence for Combining Conservative Treatments for Adhesive Capsulitis
Conclusion: Adhesive capsulitis remains a challenge to treat clinically with much still unknown regarding treatment optimization. For the foreseeable future, first-line conservative management will continue to be the mainstay of managing adhesive capsulitis. Thus, knowing how to best use and optimize these various options-both individually and in combination-is vital for effective treatment.PMID:38510216 | PMC:PMC10949050 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0128 (Source: Ochsner Journal)

Stress Fracture of the Trapezoid in a Professional Tennis Player
Conclusion: This case highlights the relationship between trapezoid and second metacarpal stress fractures in athletes. A high index of suspicion for trapezoid stress fractures should be maintained and included in every differential diagnosis for athletes, especially racket sport players presenting with wrist pain. To avoid future injuries, clinicians should not only treat the fracture but also address the risk factors predisposing to this injury.PMID:38510218 | PMC:PMC10949045 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0067 (Source: Ochsner Journal)

Brain Calcifications Secondary to Idiopathic Hyperthyroidism and Hypoparathyroidism
Conclusion: This case provides important documentation for including hypocalcemia as a result of hypoparathyroidism in the differential diagnosis of patients with seizures. The treatment approach used with our patient can be considered for managing seizures in cases where the underlying cause is challenging to identify. This case highlights the importance of a thorough evaluation and individualized treatment plan for patients with seizures.PMID:38510220 | PMC:PMC10949054 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0004 (Source: Ochsner Journal)

Training Cerebrovascular and Neuroendovascular Surgery Residents: A Systematic Literature Review and Recommendations
Conclusion: Cerebrovascular neurosurgery is at a crossroads where trainees must develop disparate skill sets with inverse trends in volume. Continued longitudinal exposure to both endovascular and open cerebrovascular surgical fields should be mandated in general resident education, and blended learning tactics using adjunct simulation systems and models should be incorporated with didactics to both optimize learning and alleviate restraints placed by decreased volume and autonomy.PMID:38510222 | PMC:PMC10949058 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0118 (Source: Ochsner Journal)

Evaluating Racial Disparities in Implementation and Monitoring of a Remote Blood Pressure Program in a Pregnant Population-A Retrospective Cohort Study
Conclusion: Remote BP monitoring programs are a helpful tool to improve the frequency of BP measurements and shorten intervals between measurements during the prenatal and postpartum periods for all patients. Future evaluation is needed to determine the barriers to offering the program to and enrolling Black patients.PMID:38510223 | PMC:PMC10949055 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0111 (Source: Ochsner Journal)

Methadone for Emergence Delirium in Ambulatory Pediatric Strabismus Surgery
Conclusion: Emergence delirium following outpatient pediatric strabismus surgery was substantially mitigated by the use of intraoperative methadone without affecting PACU throughput. No significant complications occurred. Further study is warranted to corroborate routine use of this drug for emergence delirium.PMID:38510224 | PMC:PMC10949057 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0126 (Source: Ochsner Journal)

Outcomes of Reduction Mammaplasty in Adolescents vs Average-Age Patients: A 3-Year Single-Center Retrospective Analysis
Conclusion: Complications related to wound healing are common in reduction mammaplasty, although rates of life-threatening complications are rare. In this 3-year review comparing the outcomes of adolescent vs average-age patients who underwent reduction mammaplasty at the same institution, no significant differences in postoperative complication rates were found. Our data suggest that adolescent patients with macromastia should not defer reduction mammaplasty out of concern for higher complication rates because of age alone.PMID:38510229 | PMC:PMC10949056 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0079 (Source: Ochsner Journal)
