Understanding the influence of different proxy perspectives in explaining the difference between self-rated and proxy-rated quality of life in people living with dementia: a systematic literature review and meta-analysis
ConclusionDifferent proxy perspectives affect the ratings of QoL, whereby adopting a proxy-proxy QoL perspective has a higher inter-rater gap in comparison with the proxy-patient perspective. (Source: Quality of Life Research)

Rasch validation of the short form (8 item) PC-QoL questionnaire and applicability of use as a health state classification system for a new preference-based measure
This study included PC-QoL 8-item responses of 653 parents participating in a prospective cohort study about paediatric chronic cough. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Rasch analysis were used to examine dimensionality and select potential items and level structure.ResultsEFA indicated that the PC-QoL had one underlying domain. Rasch analysis indicated threshold disordering in all items which improved when items were collapsed from seven to four levels. Two demonstrated differential item functioning (DIF) by diagnosis or ethnicity and were excluded from the final scale. This scale satisfied Rasch assumptions of local ...

The PROMIS-16 reproduces the PROMIS-29 physical and mental health summary scores accurately in a probability-based internet panel
ConclusionThe PROMIS-16 provides similar estimates of the PROMIS-29 physical and mental health summary scores. The high reliability of these scores indicates they are accurate enough for use with individual patients. (Source: Quality of Life Research)

Impact of caregiving on mental, self-rated, and physical health: evidence from the China health and retirement longitudinal study
This study longitudinally analyzed the association of caregiving (and different caregiver types) with mental, physical, and self-rated health. Urban –rural, gender, and employment heterogeneity were further investigated.MethodBased on three-wave data (2011, 2013, and 2018) from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, we used growth curve models to assess the impact of informal caregiving (providing care to family members) and caregiver types (caregivers to grandchildren, parents, spouses, or multiple family members) on three health outcomes (depressive symptoms, self-rated health, and activities of daily livi...

What facets of physical function are most important to adults diagnosed with cancer?
ConclusionThis study demonstrates that we must be more specific about the facets of physical function that we set out to assess when we use PRO measures to describe the patient experience. These results have implications for the specificity of physical function facets when measured in cancer clinical trials. (Source: Quality of Life Research)

Facets of physical function assessed by patient-reported outcome measures in oncology research
ConclusionClassifying PF PROMs by PF facets will promote more consistent communication regarding the aspects of PF represented in each PROM, helping researchers prioritize measures for inclusion in cancer clinical trials. (Source: Quality of Life Research)

Cancer population norms using a new value set for the SF-6Dv2 based on the preferences of patients with breast or colorectal cancer in Quebec
ConclusionCancer population norms can serve as a baseline for interpreting the scores obtained by a given population in comparison to the situation of another group. In this way, our results can assist in comparing utility scores among cancer patients with different sociodemographic groups to other patients/populations groups. To our knowledge, our identified utility norms are the first for patients with breast or colorectal cancer from Quebec. (Source: Quality of Life Research)

Influence of frailty status on the health-related quality of life in older patients with chronic low back pain: a retrospective observational study
ConclusionsA significant association exists between frailty and reduced HRQoL in patients with chronic low back pain. This association was predominant in female patients. Furthermore, considering the dynamic nature of frailty, early detection and effective interventions targeting pre-frailty are essential to delaying the transition to full frailty and improving HRQoL. Understanding caregiver burden from multiple perspectives: dyadic agreement between caregiver and care recipient
ConclusionResults demonstrate there is a difference between perspectives. Strong agreement in Proxy-CB perspective suggests that care recipients can potentially substitute for caregivers depending on the domain. CR-SPB agrees less with caregivers and may provide complementary information.Graphical abstract (Source: Quality of Life Research)

Construct validity of the 12-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-12) version 2 and the impact of lifestyle modifications on the health-related quality of life among Indian adults with prediabetes: results from the D-CLIP trial
ConclusionThe study confirmed that the SF-12 is suitable for assessing the physical and mental health dimensions of HRQOL for Indian adults. Our findings suggest that the benefits of diabetes prevention lifestyle modification strategies may primarily enhance the physical well-being of adults with prediabetes. Further studies validating the SF-12 in a broader Asian Indian population are needed.Trial registrationClinicaltrials.gov, NCT01283308. (Source: Quality of Life Research)

It ’s time for change: inequities and determinants of health-related quality of life among gender and sexually diverse young people in Australia
ConclusionEvidence-based public health policy responses are required to address the dire HR-QoL inequities among LGBTQA2S+ young people, particularly trans young people. Prioritising the promotion of school- and family-based interventions which foster LGBTQA2S+ inclusivity, acceptance, and a sense of belonging from early adolescence through young adulthood, represents a feasible, evidence-based, and cost-effective response to address these HR-QoL disparities (Source: Quality of Life Research)
