The King's Fund report has announced today, that within a generation, almost a million of us will suffer from dementia and this will present an enormous cost.
The RSM is holding a major meeting on 9 June (evening) and 10 June (day) with leading experts from the UK and the USA to look at the major advances in our understanding of the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease leading to research into possible novel disease- modifying treatments. Baroness Finlay of Llandaff has been named Peer of the Year at the second Dods & Scottish Widows Women in Public Life Awards. Baroness Finlay was recognised at the Awards for being a tireless champion for care of the dying across the UK. To mark the centenary of the RSM Section of Surgery, an exhibition of items from the Archives, including photographs, documents, publications and minute books is currently on display in the Heritage Centre and in the display cases on the second floor of the library. Also on display are a number of surgery books from our old-and-rare collection. The oldest book in this part of the exhibition is from 1565. This exhibition will run until Friday 22 February.
