Rss4medics.com was set up by a surgical doctor who had been using rss to help with his research. He realised that the technology would be extremely useful for his colleagues in the NHS, many of whom have little time but need to keep up to date with all new medical developments related to their specialities and participate in medical research on an ongoing basis. This website was set up to help explain rss from a non-technical medical user's point of view.

An explanation of RSS Writers/Editors. An rss writer is a wizard like tool that will create rss files for you to announce your latest news or updates to your website. RSS files are just text files in which headlines, summaries, links and published dates are listed (and sometimes other information, such as author and categories). Each item in the file is labelled with 'xml tags' so that the rss readers know which data is which. You don't have to worry about the xml tags - just enter your data into an rss writer and it will output the rss file in the xml format, ready load onto your webserver.

An explanation of RSS Readers/Aggregators. An rss reader, also known as an rss aggregator, is like a simplified web browser. Often with an Explorer style interface, it reads and displays lists of headings and summaries of new information on the internet, with links to the full articles. There are now many RSS Readers available to download for free from the internet. Our favourite is 'FeedReader' which we like because of its ease o...

RSS Overview for Medicsemail this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
A explanation of rss and how it can be of help to those in the medical sector. RSS is really simple. It is a way to quickly find out new information on the internet, without having to wade through irrelevant pages full of slow loading graphics and advertisements. This is done by the publishing of short headlines and summaries that say what is new on a website, with links to the full articles. These summaries (RSS files) are picked up and read by simplified web browsers known as RSS Readers (or RSS Aggregators). RSS can also be used to announce your own news and publications to the world.
