Dosimetric parameters predict radiation-induced temporal lobe necrosis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis
In conclusion, this systematic review highlights the significance of dosimetric parameters, particularly Dmax and D1cc, in predicting TLN risk in NPC patients undergoing 3D-CRT, IMRT, and VMAT. The findings provide valuable insights that can help in developing optimal treatment planning strategies and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines in this field.PMID:38537680 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110258 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

Infrared microspectroscopy to elucidate the underlying biomolecular mechanisms of FLASH radiotherapy
CONCLUSION: This work provided new insights into the biomolecular effects involved in FLASH-RT through FTIRM. Our results showed that beyond nucleic acid investigations, one should take into account other dose-rate responsive molecules such as proteins, as they might be key to understand FLASH effect.PMID:38527626 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110238 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

Definitive results of a prospective non-randomized phase 2 study on stereotactic body radiation therapy (sbrt) for medically inoperable lung and liver oligometastases from breast cancer
CONCLUSION: SBRT is a safe and valid option in oligometastatic breast cancer patients, with very high rates of local control. An optimal selection of patients is likely needed to improve survival outcomes and reduce the rate of distant progression.PMID:38522597 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110240 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio for the prediction of soft tissue sarcomas response to pre-operative radiation therapy
CONCLUSION: This study is the first to evaluate NLR as a prognostic biomarker in STS patients treated with pre-operative radiotherapy. A higher NLR after pre-operative radiotherapy was associated with increased disease progression.PMID:38521165 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110239 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

Chronic fatigue in long-term survivors of head and neck cancer treated with radiotherapy
CONCLUSIONS: CF in HNC survivors is particularly important for female patients, while specific factors associated with RT appear not to play a role. The high CF prevalence in long-term HNC survivors associated with impaired HRQoL is important information beneficial for clinicians and patients to improve patient follow-up.PMID:38518958 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110231 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

Organs-at-risk dose and normal tissue complication probability with dynamic trajectory radiotherapy (DTRT) for head and neck cancer
Radiother Oncol. 2024 Mar 20;195:110237. doi: 10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110237. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe compared dynamic trajectory radiotherapy (DTRT) to state-of-the-art volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for 46 head and neck cancer cases. DTRT had lower dose to salivary glands and swallowing structure, resulting in lower predicted xerostomia and dysphagia compared to VMAT. DTRT is deliverable on C-arm linacs with high dosimetric accuracy.PMID:38513960 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110237 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)
