A taxonomy of regulatory and policy matters relevant to psychedelic-assisted therapy in Australia
CONCLUSIONS: The taxonomy provides a roadmap for health services establishing and implementing a psychedelic-assisted therapy program, or for government and other policymakers when determining areas that may require further regulation.PMID:38628079 | DOI:10.1177/00048674241240597 (Source: The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry)

Distinct profiles of mental health need and high need overall among New Zealand adolescents - Cluster analysis of population survey data
CONCLUSION: We identified high prevalence of mental health challenges among adolescents, with distinct clusters of need. Youth mental health is not 'one size fits all'. Future research should explore youth behaviour and preferences in accessing support and consider how to best support the mental health of each cluster.PMID:38600641 | DOI:10.1177/00048674241243262 (Source: The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry)

Evaluating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social and Emotional Wellbeing services: A collective case study in Far North Queensland
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrate the complexity of current networks, and show that non-Indigenous organisations are disproportionately influential in the care received by young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, despite community goals of self-determination, and government commitment to increasing capacity of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to support their local communities. These findings can be used to support decision making and planning.PMID:38590033 | DOI:10.1177/00048674241242935 (Source: The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry)

Discrimination between healthy participants and people with panic disorder based on polygenic scores for psychiatric disorders and for intermediate phenotypes using machine learning
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that increasing the number of polygenic score combinations up to approximately 10 effectively improved the discrimination accuracy and that support vector machine exhibited greater accuracy among classifiers. However, the discrimination accuracy for panic disorder, when based solely on polygenic score combinations, was found to be modest.PMID:38581251 | DOI:10.1177/00048674241242936 (Source: The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry)

Co-occurring psychological distress and alcohol or other drug use among Indigenous Australians: Data from the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Survey
CONCLUSION: A range of potential risk and protective factors were identified for co-occurring psychological distress, risky alcohol and/or substance use among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This information is critical for planning effective holistic strategies to decrease the burden of suffering imposed upon the individual, family and community members impacted by co-occurring conditions.PMID:38581252 | DOI:10.1177/00048674241244601 (Source: The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry)
