Hegde Chethan, Krishna D Prasad, Jacob Sunil J, Shetty ManojThe Journal of Indian Prosthodontic Society 2009 9(3):164-166Patients with severe tooth wear may require extensive restorative procedure to achieve appropriate function, esthetics, and comfort. Occlusal rehabilitation requires a correlation of biologic factors, mechanical principles, and esthetic requirements with treatment procedures. A combination of new generation materials, along with improved clinical procedures, works in tandem to produce an esthetic, long-lasting, and functional outcome, satisfying both the clinician as well as the patient. Kumar Sandeep, Kamath Giridhar, Gupta SeemaThe Journal of Indian Prosthodontic Society 2009 9(3):160-163The use of immediate postextraction implants presents several advantages in terms of reduction of surgical steps and time required to conclude the therapy. Particularly important is the possibility to minimize bone loss that otherwise would occur in the physiologic healing of the alveolus. Immediate implant placement has helped solve issues with regard to bone quality, quantity and esthetics and also treatment time, as opposed to delayed implant placement. Here, a case report has been presented in which immediate extract...

Conclusions</b> : It was concluded that: the occlusal plane is parallel to Camper's plane posterior reference point as the superior point of tragus in females and middle point in males. The occlusal plane is not generally parallel to the interpupillary line. Intra-orally, the level of buccinator groove is reliable, while variations in retromolar pad area make it an unreliable landmark for orienting the occlusal plane. Behanam Mohamed, Haribabu R, Anuroopa AThe Journal of Indian Prosthodontic Society 2009 9(1):43-46In patients with a defective maxillo-mandibular complex, the foremost challenge in achieving an accurate centric or eccentric record is the sheer irregularity and non-repeatability of the movements of the mandible. As a result, mandatory clinical procedures like jaw relations, intra or extra-oral tracings and interocclusal records are made complicated, and the accuracy of such records, questionable. Hence every maxillofacial patient must be considered on an individual basis and rehabilitation procedures customized to suit the ...

Patil Pravinkumar G, Parkhedkar Rambhau DThe Journal of Indian Prosthodontic Society 2009 9(1):33-35Prosthetic rehabilitation with surgical obturator for total maxillectomy patients is a challenging job because of the lack of normal hard and soft tissue support. In such cases the obturator can be retained with a spring-retained appliance if mandibular dentition is normal. A patient (treated with total maxillectomy) was rehabilitated with a new spring-retained surgical obturator. The spring used in this type of appliance is made up of 23-gauge stainless steel orthodontic wire which incorporates four coils. The spring is sim...

Padmanabhan T V, Mohammad Kasim, Gupta Rajiv KumarThe Journal of Indian Prosthodontic Society 2009 9(1):28-32The rehabilitation of patients with acquired defects of the maxilla is a challenge in terms of re-establishing oronasal separation. In most patients these goals are met by means of prosthetic rehabilitation with an obturator prosthesis. Prosthetic rehabilitation can be achieved satisfactorily if all facets of treatment planning and design consideration are taken well into account prior to the rehabilitation process. In many cases effective obturation is achieved but in the relative majority, the prosthesis is usuall...

This study compared the recorded interocclusal relationships produced using commonly used materials, determining which material accurately provides records of the interocclusal relationship for remounting. Ten occlusal registration materials were used in this study. Maxillary and mandibular casts were mounted on an articulator in maximum intercuspation. The interocclusal relationship was recorded with each specimen under a constant weight. Remounting of the mandibular cast was accomplished with the interocclusal record. The record was removed and the interocclusal contact recorded using occlusal indicator wax. The penetrat...
