Urban and Rural Emergency Department Performance on National Quality Metrics for Sepsis Care in the United States
ConclusionsSepsis care at both rural and urban EDs often achieves success with national metrics. However, performance on individual components of ED sepsis care demonstrates opportunities for improved processes of care at rural EDs. (Source: The Journal of Rural Health)

Sleep in Farm Adolescents
ConclusionsThis study profiles the sleep experiences of 11 ‐ to 16‐year‐old farm adolescents. Almost 1 in 3 of these adolescents did not get adequate sleep. Older adolescents who lived or worked on a farm slept less than comparably aged nonfarm adolescents. This may reflect their participation in morning chores essential to the farm operation and may increase their injury risk. (Source: The Journal of Rural Health)

Oral Health Literacy and Outcomes in Rural Wisconsin Adults
ConclusionIn rural Wisconsin, low OHL tracked closely with markers of socioeconomic status and appeared most influential in the context of appropriate dental care utilization. Future research should consider longitudinal explorations of how OHL influences preventive and emergency dental visits over time. (Source: The Journal of Rural Health)

Transitory and Enduring Disability Among Urban and Rural People
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that when researchers, policy makers, and service providers are addressing rural and urban differences in health and well ‐being, self‐reported disability is another factor to consider. Future work should be mindful of how disability and space intersect with gender and race, creating significant disparities for people of color in rural places. (Source: The Journal of Rural Health)

Medical Emergencies in Farmers
AbstractBackground: Agricultural work involves hazards that may harm long ‐term well‐being. We evaluated the risk of long‐term disability and death for agricultural workers compared to construction workers with similar demographics. We hypothesized that delays to emergency care and subsequent long‐term disability following injury might be worse for agricultural wo rkers compared to those injured in construction. Methods: We evaluated all adults severely injured on farms or on construction sites in Ontario, Canada, between April 1, 2009, and March 31, 2012, according to the Ontario Trauma Registry. We excluded indivi...

Differences in Rural and Urban Health Information Access and Use
ConclusionsSome differences in access to and use of health information sources may be accounted for by sociodemographic differences between rural and urban populations. There may be structural barriers such as shortage of specialist doctors and limited media exposure that make it harder for rural residents to access health information, especially those with limited health literacy. Should Measures of Health Care Availability be Based on the Providers or the Procedures? A Case Study with Implications for Rural Colorectal Cancer Disparities
ConclusionsOur new method is an improvement over traditional methods because it considers the variation of physician procedure volume, and it has a stronger correlation with population health outcomes. Weighted density scores portray a more realistic picture of physician supply, particularly in rural areas. (Source: The Journal of Rural Health)

Regional Rural ‐Urban Differences in E‐Cigarette Use and Reasons for Use in the United States
ConclusionsFor several regions, there were no significant rural/urban differences in e ‐cigarette use and reasons for use. Yet those regions that present differences face the need to develop public health approaches to minimize urban/rural disparities in health education, services, and outcomes related to tobacco use, particularly where access to health care is limited. Public healt h campaigns and guidance for clinical care within HHS regions should be tailored to reflect regional differences in beliefs about e‐cigarettes. (Source: The Journal of Rural Health)
