Minimally Invasive Correction of Failed Percutaneous Atrial Septal Closure with Device Embolization
We present the case of a minimally invasive surgical correction for failed percutaneous atrial septal defect (ASD) closure in a 57-year-old female patient with residual ASD, tricuspid regurgitation, atrial fibrillation, and embolization of one of two occluders to the superior mesenteric artery. Our surgical approach consisted of anterolateral minithoracotomy, aortic and femoral vein cannulation, cryoablation, cardiac device removal, closure of ASD with autologous pericardium, and tricuspid repair. The procedure was uneventful and patient was discharged home on postoperative day 4. [...] Georg Thieme Verlag KG RüdigerstraÃ...

Cardiac Hemangioma in the Left Ventricular Septum
Conclusion Surgical resection represents the primary therapeutic approach for the management of cardiac hemangiomas. Failure to perform timely resection may elevate the risk of developing total atrioventricular block and experiencing sudden death. Right Atrium Primary Cardiac Lymphoma Causing Heart Failure
Conclusion Cardiac tumors present with a variety of symptoms and are best evaluated by echocardiogram, computed tomography angiography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Tissue diagnosis is necessary. Although primary cardiac lymphoma is rare, long-term survival after chemotherapy and rituximab is superior to other cardiac malignancies. Postpneumonectomy Empyema in the Presence of COVID-19 Pneumonia after Non-COVID-19 ARDS
We present the case of a 58-year-old patient with pleural empyema within the postpneumonectomy cavity in the presence of severe COVID-19 pneumonia after non-COVID-19 acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy. The patient had undergone right-sided pneumonectomy for destroyed lung syndrome after invasive pulmonary aspergillosis [...] Georg Thieme Verlag KG Rüdigerstraße 14, 70469 Stuttgart, GermanyArticle in Thieme eJournals: Table of contents  |  Abstract  |  open access Full text (Source: The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon Reports)

Surgical Considerations for Treatment of Fungal Homograft Endocarditis in Re-re-re-re-do
Thorac Cardiovasc Surg Rep 2023; 12: e48-e50 DOI: 10.1055/s-0043-1770983Fungal endocarditis is associated with high surgical mortality rates. Advanced expertise is required for surgical treatment of this serious condition. In the present report, we describe the homograft replacement in a beating heart during re-re-re-re-do in a 29-year-old female patient with fungal endocarditis. The previous operations included Fallot correction at the age of 1 year, Contegra graft implantation in the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) due to severe pulmonary insufficiency, homograft implantation in pulmonary position due to Contegra ...

Coronary Sparing Aneurysmectomy
Thorac Cardiovasc Surg Rep 2023; 12: e41-e43 DOI: 10.1055/a-2090-6005Repairing left ventricular aneurysms that form after myocardial infarction may be challenging, especially if located close to the important native coronary arteries. Here, we describe a rare case of anterolateral aneurysm of the basal LV wall and a safe, efficient approach for a patch plasty sparing the native left anterior descending.
