Association between Parvovirus B19 and thyroid/celiac autoantibodies among T1DM pediatric patients
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of autoantibodies against the thyroid was higher among the seropositive Parvovirus B19 children with T1DM. A positive association between the prevalence of autoantibodies against thyroid disease and the increase in the duration of diabetes was also noted. Hence, periodic screening of T1DM patients for B19 antibodies and autoantibodies for thyroid is crucial.PMID:38497882 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202403_35614 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Thyrotoxicosis and thyroiditis
Thyrotoxicosis is a common condition resulting from excess of circulating thyroid hormones in the blood. The most frequent cause of thyrotoxicosis is Graves ’ disease and the clinical features include goitre and eye disease. The treatment strategies in Graves’ disease involve anti-thyroid drugs, radioiodine and thyroidectomy. Thyroiditis (inflammation of the thyroid) is caused by release of stored thyroid hormones and may also result in thyrotoxicos is. The aetiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, investigation and management of conditions causing thyrotoxicosis and thyroiditis are reviewed in this chapter. (Source: Surgery...

Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration thyroglobulin in the diagnosis of lymph node metastasis of differentiated papillary thyroid carcinoma and its influencing factors
ConclusionThe findings of this study indicate that the utilization of FNA in conjunction with FNA-Tg is a crucial approach for detecting LNM in DTC. TNM stage indicated N1b, the presence of HVLNM, the presence of HT, lymph node L/S ratio, liquefaction, calcification, tumor diameter, sTg and sTgAb are factors that can impact FNA-Tg levels. In the context of clinical application, it is imperative to individualize the use of FNA-Tg. Chronic Lymphocytic Thyroiditis with Oncocytic Metaplasia Influences PD-L1 Expression in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
ConclusionsOur study underscores the intricate interplay between chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis with oncocytic metaplasia and PD-L1 expression in papillary thyroid carcinoma. The observed link suggests a potential avenue for therapeutic intervention using anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapies in surgery-refractory PTC. Understanding the dynamics of immune checkpoint regulation in the context of the tumor microenvironment is crucial for devising effective treatment strategies. Future research endeavors should delve deeper into the molecular mechanisms underlying this interaction and explore its implications for patient outcomes. As th...

Thyroid dysfunction (TD) induced by PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in advanced lung cancer
CONCLUSION: TD resulting from PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor treatment in advanced lung cancer may be associated with good clinical outcomes. The clarification of the molecular mechanisms underlying TD and the identification of reliable predictive biomarkers will guide clinicians in managing TD in this patient population.PMID:38449616 | PMC:PMC10915392 | DOI:10.1016/j.heliyon.2024.e27077 (Source: Cancer Control)

Papillary thyroid carcinoma:  ≤ 10 mm does not always mean pN0. A multicentric real-world study
AbstractThe incidence of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is increasing and PTC  ≤ 10 mm (PTMC) accounts for most new diagnoses. PTMCs are not always low risk, as detection of lymph nodes metastasis (LNM) may occur. The purpose of the study was to analyze the clinical pattern, frequency, and independent risk factors of patients with PTMC and LNM. From January 2022 to Jun e 2023, PTCs managed at CTO Hospital, Rome; Policlinico Vanvitelli, Naples; and Garibaldi Nesima Hospital, Catania were included. PTC management followed the same diagnostic–therapeutic procedures according to the ATA guidelines. Variables such a...
