Radiological and Clinical Outcomes of Transforaminal vs. Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusions: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: The superiority of TLIF over PLIF may be evidenced by the lower rate of neurologic deficit, surgical technical aspects, less blood loss and shorter operation time. Cage migration, screw displacement, infection, and pseudoarthrosis may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the facility, the surgeon, and the instrumentation/ graft used, and do not appear to be different. Multicenter non-randomized prospective trials are recommended to determine the possible superiority of one method over the other.PMID:38497172 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.42926-22.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Survival Outcome and Prognostic Factors of Primary Spinal Cord Lymphoma
CONCLUSION: The survival outcome of PSCL is favorable in the current treatment strategy. Chemotherapy and radiochemotherapy were predictors of favorable outcomes, whereas older age and DLBL were associated with poor prognosis.PMID:38497173 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.41081-22.3 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

LncRNA FOXD3-AS1 Contributes to Glioblastoma Progression Via Sponging miR-3918 to Upregulate CCND1
CONCLUSION: FOXD3-AS1 facilitates the CCND1-driven progression of glioblastoma by serving as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) for miR-3918. This suggests that FOXD3-AS1 may be a potential therapeutic target for the management of glioblastoma development.PMID:38497174 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.38366-22.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Quantitative Anatomic Analysis and Clinical Application of Lumbar Spinous Process Split Laminotomy
CONCLUSION: The retraction width of 10 mm-12 mm is safe and effective. The micromanipulations such as tumor resection, nervous exploration, dural suture, etc. can be conducted smoothly via the surgical corridor. In addition, the retraction width of 12.34~16.82 mm could serve as a safety margin for surgical planning. Our findings may provide a quantitative reference for clinical application of lumbar spinous process split laminotomy.PMID:38497175 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.42396-22.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Novel Indices for Lumbar Discectomy: Systemic Immune Inflammation Index, Systemic Inflammatory Response Index, Multi Inflammatory Index, and Prognostic Nutrition Index
CONCLUSION: LD's most substantial and valuable indices were NLR, SII, and SIRI. Regarding superiority to SII and NLR, SIRI showed significant agreement with the scales and drew a more appropriate marker profile for LD than MII-1, MII-2, and PNI.PMID:38497176 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.42769-22.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Evaluation of Percutaneous Unilateral Kyphoplasty Results in Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures Using Individual 3D Printed Guide Template Support
CONCLUSION: When compared to the conventional procedure, the unilateral percutaneous kyphoplasty method was supported by a 3D printing guide template. By reducing operative time and radiation exposure, tt has resulted in a more effective surgical procedure for patients and a safer surgical procedure for surgeons and anaesthesiologists.PMID:38497177 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.43052-22.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Is The Modular Dynamic System as Effective as Classical Dynamic Systems in Long Segment Dynamic Thoracolumbar Stabilization?
CONCLUSION: We did not experience any serious issues in terms of stabilization in the cases in which we employed both systems. Our patients' clinical results were satisfactory in both systems. Existing systems can be used safely even in long-segment stabilization surgeries.PMID:38497178 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.42746-22.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

The Effects of Regulating Increased Blood Glucose Levels on Plasma Endothelin-1 Levels After Severe Head Trauma in Rats
CONCLUSION: The increased ET-1 levels were significantly prevented by keeping blood glucose levels within normal limits with insulin after severe head trauma. Thus, secondary injury to cerebral blood flow can be prevented by reducing the occurrence of vasospasm that starts in the early posttraumatic period or by stimulating the release of nitric oxide. Therefore, further studies on the role of ET-1 and insulin in developing secondary injuries after severe head trauma would be beneficial.PMID:38497179 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.43318-23.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Middle Cerebral Artery Ischemic Complications After Flow Diverter Deployment from Internal Carotid Artery Extending into M1 Segment
CONCLUSION: If the distance of the distal neck of the aneurysm to the ICA terminus (ICAT) is ≤5 mm, or if the aneurysm is located directly at the ICAT, FDD should be considered only as a last option when other treatment modalities are not suitable. In addition, in the treatment of distal ICA aneurysms, extra effort should be exerted during the procedure to deploy the FDD without extending into M1. However, when traditional microsurgical clipping and other endovascular procedures are not suitable, the use of FDD is effective in terms of high aneurysm occlusion rates and preventing aneurysm rupture.PMID:38497180 | DOI:10.5...

Intraventricular Hemorrhage and Related Hydrocephalus Patients Demographics in a University Hospital NICU: Single-Center Data
CONCLUSION: The permanent CSF diversion rate was significantly higher in the high-grade hemorrhage group, which had significantly lower weight and gestational age at birth. Moreover, only weight at VAD insertion had minimal effect on the need for permanent CSF diversion.PMID:38497181 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.43279-22.1 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Comparative Analysis of Ultrasound-Assisted Precise Localization vs. Traditional Open Incision in Situ Decompression for the Treatment of Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
CONCLUSION: Both procedures effectively treated most cases of CuTS and were associated with good postoperative outcomes. Patients who underwent ultrasound-assisted localization in situ decompression had shorter surgeries and hospital stays, better postoperative aesthetics, better VSS and VAS scores, and required less pain medication during the postoperative period. Traditional open incision in situ produced a more thorough decompression.PMID:38497184 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.42971-22.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Analysis of Neurosurgical Injuries and The Lessons Learned After the Catastrophic Double Earthquakes in Turkey
CONCLUSION: Neurosurgical injury is an important cause of post-earthquake mortality and morbidity. To ensure efficient medical rescue and judicious resource allocation, it is essential to recognize the characteristics of earthquake-related neurosurgical injuries. This study provides valuable information regarding the incidence, characteristics, and outcomes of neurosurgical injuries in earthquake-affected patients. Our findings highlight the need for prompt diagnosis and management of such injuries, particularly in those with concomitant systemic trauma.PMID:38497186 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.44593-23.3 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)
