Hepatic transarterial interventional therapies such as chemoembolization and radiation embolization are important treatment options for hepatocellular carcinoma. Understanding the anatomy of individual arterial branches and hepatic segments is critical for selecting the correct embolization technique for treatment and to avoid complications. The authors describe the morphologic characteristics of hepatic arterial branches (and their mimickers) and hepatic segments on conventional angiograms. These vessels and segments include the celiac artery, the common and proper hepatic arteries, the left and right hepatic arteries and...

An 84-year-old woman with hypertension and recent onset stable angina underwent coronary angiography after a myocardial perfusion scan demonstrated anterior ischaemia. This revealed a single coronary artery ostium in the right sinus of Valsalva from which arose the left anterior descending (LAD) artery and right coronary artery (RCA). The LAD was found to take a route to the left in a retroaortic fashion (dorsal) before assuming its usual position in the anterior interventricular groove. It had a proximal 70% atheromatous stenosis. The RCA traversed the atrioventricular groove giving rise to a posterior descending branch a...

On-table echocardiography revealed a dilated aortic root suggesting an acute aortic dissection. An urgent 64-slice multi-detector row CT (MDCT) gated scan of the thoracic aorta and coronary arteries showed a single coronary ostium arising higher and more anterior above the sinotubular ridge. Originating from the ostium were two vessels: a small ...

A 28-year-old woman with congenital aneurysm of the left atrial appendage was successfully treated by aneurysmectomy and is reported for its rarity. The exact diagnosis is relatively easy to make by contrast echocardiography, magnetic resonance imaging, and/or computerised tomographic angiography, provided the possibility is entertained. Because of supraventricular arrhythmias and systemic thromboembolism, surgical resection was deemed the best curative option to avoid further episodes and recurrence. Conclusions
The findings of the present study show that transradial coronary angiography and angioplasty are safe, feasible, and effective with similar results to those of the transfemoral approach. However, procedural duration and radiation exposure are higher using the transradial access. In contrast to the transfemoral route, the rate of major vascular complications was negligible using the transradial approach. Conclusions:
Fetal-variant PcoA appears to act as a safeguard against ischaemic insult in acute stroke victims involving the brainstem with BA occlusive disease. This result can be explained by the fact that patients with fetal-variant PcoA have a smaller area of posterior circulation and a possibility of retrograde filling into the upper brainstem through the fetal-variant PcoA. Transient shivering during Wada test provides insight into human thermoregulation

Discussion: Transient shivering during the Wada test is common. A transient but selective functional lesion of the anterior hypothalamus produced by the effects of sodium amobarbital may result in disinhibition of the posterior hypothalamus and other brainstem thermoregulatory centers, thereby inducing transient shivering. Conclusion: Asymptomatic patients with normal myocardial scans had a better cardiac prognosis than did patients with or without CAD and positive for myocardial ischemia. Patients with altered scan and CAD had the poorer outcome. Guideline-oriented medical treatment is safe and yields results comparable to coronary intervention in renal transplant patients with CAD. The data do not support pre-emptive myocardial revascularization for renal transplant candidates. (Source: Clinical Transplantation)

Conclusions 3D modeling in combination with traditional sectional imaging of the pig model enables blood vessels to be displayed more
dynamically with greater realism. The procedure described could be useful for future flap research, by offering a better visualization
of the vascular structure of the skin flap, allowing for better anatomical understanding.

This study sought to compare the most frequently used embolic particles in an animal model. In 16 New Zealand white rabbits,
right renal arteries were embolized using four different embolic particles (polyvinyl alcohol [PVA] particles, 150–250 μm;
PVA microspheres [PVAMs], 150–300 μm; Tris-acryl gelatin microspheres [TGMs], 100–300 μm; expanding microspheres [EXMs], 50–100 μm).
Quantity of embolic material used, embolization time, and angiographic patterns were documented. Fourteen days later, a control
angiography was done to document angiographic recanalization and all animals were sac...

Conclusion Prospectively gated axial CT coronary angiography performed on 256-slice CT provides significantly improved and more stable
image quality at an equivalent effective radiation dose compared with 64-slice CT.

CONCLUSIONS:
Prematurity is associated with more complete CoWs and fewer anatomic variations. In vascular-related abnormalities, more variations involved major arterial segments, but fewer variations occurred in the communicating arteries. Overall reference values of the variations match those of the general adult population. (Source: American Journal of Neuroradiology)

CONCLUSIONS:
Long-term follow-up of cerebral aneurysms is necessary to depict recanalization. Only 7% of the aneurysms were retreated. Use of bare coils gives a good long-term level of occlusion. (Source: American Journal of Neuroradiology)

CONCLUSIONS:
CTA and CE-MRA evaluation of vessel patency after stent placement is possible but is considerably impaired by ALN. Investigators should be informed about the method of choice for every stent. Stent manufacturers should be aware of potential artifacts caused by their stents during noninvasive diagnostic methods such as CTA and CE-MRA. (Source: American Journal of Neuroradiology)
