Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) is an inherited, autosomal dominant disorder distinguished by hamartomatous polyps in the gastrointestinal tract and pigmented mucocutaneous lesions. Prevalence of PJS is estimated from 1 in 8300 to 1 in 280,000 individuals. PJS predisposes sufferers to various malignancies (gastrointestinal, pancreatic, lung, breast, uterine, ovarian and testicular tumors). Bleeding, obstruction and intussusception are common complications in patients with PJS. Double balloon enteroscopy (DBE) allows examination and treatment of the small bowel. Polypectomy using DBE may obviate the need for repeated urgen...

Crohn disease often recurs after surgical resection. Despite extensive research in the prevention of postoperative Crohn disease, optimal management strategies have yet to be defined. Risk of disease recurrence needs to be carefully balanced against potential risks associated with treatment. Patients with low risk of postoperative recurrence may not require medication, whereas those at moderate risk may benefit from antibiotics or immunomodulators. Those at highest risk of recurrence may benefit from biologic therapy for maintenance of surgical remission. Postoperative colonoscopy within 1 year of resective surgery is impo...

Conclusion: This study provides important insights in the feasibility and difference in results from labeled and unlabeled DCEs. The inclusion of labels appeared to play a significant role in individual choices but reduced the attention respondents give to the attributes. As a result, unlabeled DCEs may be more suitable to investigate trade-offs between attributes and for respondents who do not have familiarity with the alternative labels, whereas labeled DCEs may be more suitable to explain real-life choices such as uptake of cancer screening. For American men, cancer of the prostate is the type of malignancy that strikes with the greatest frequency. The ACS says an estimated 192,280 men will be diagnosed with the disease in 2009 and around 27,360 men will die from it. Based on the assumption that finding breast and prostate cancers in the earliest stages will make them easier to cure and slash mortality rates, for over twenty years the U.S. medical establishment has pushed...

Staging pull-through EUS examination is then performed. Radial imaging at 7.5 MHz shows clear identification of the bladder. Upon pull-through with the EUS scope, the rectal wall is identified showing the muscularis propria and a thickened submucosal space suggesting tumor involvement. Conclusions Even though BCS generally had higher cancer screening rates than women without a cancer history, racial/ethnic differences
exist among the type of test received. Narrowing these differences is essential to lessen disparities.
Implications for cancer survivors The need for screening guidelines for BCS remains a high priority. Survivors would benefit from the frequency of screening
for all cancers post-treatment.
