The demand for highly trained evaluation consultants is increasing. Furthermore, the gap between job seekers’ evaluation competencies and job recruiters’ expectations suggests a need for providing practical training experiences. A model using a vertical practicum (advanced students assisting in the training of newer students) is suggested as an ideal training solution. Applied Research Consultants (ARC) is a 2-year vertical practicum conceptually built around a student-run consulting firm. ARC provides opportunities for graduate students to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-world situations,...

Because most new nurse academicians are prepared as expert clinicians, rather than as educators, they lack the skills and knowledge of effective teachers when they accept a position in an educational institution. Teaching seminars conducted by graduate students are a successful component of faculty development in teaching. Gra...

Results indicated that 47% of surveyed sites use outcome measures for assessment, and 66% used these measures for diagnostic purposes. In addition, 79% of respondents supported using outcome assessment measures to evaluate client progress, 61% supported training interns in the use of outcome assessment measures, and 87% felt outcome assessment measures would increase in importance in the future. Conclusions:
Undergraduate CPT teaching in Nigeria appears to be deficient. Principles of rational prescribing, drug dose calculation in children and pharmacovigilance should be the focus of undergraduate CPT teaching and should be taught both theoretically and practically. Medical students and interns should be periodically assessed on prescribing knowledge and skills during their training as a means of minimizing prescribing errors. (Source: BioMed Central)

CONCLUSIONS: Participants in the intervention group were more successful performing certain simulated procedures than controls when tested immediately after receiving the curriculum but demonstrated declining skills thereafter. Future efforts must emphasize retraining, and residents must have sufficient opportunities to practice skills learned in a formal curriculum. (Source: PEDIATRICS)
