miRNAs in bone metastasis.
Authors: Cheung DG, Buzzetti M, Di Leva G Abstract INTRODUCTION: Bone metastasis is one of the most common forms of metastasis from a number of different primary carcinomas. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short, endogenous RNAs that negatively regulate gene expression to control essential pathways, including those involved in bone organogenesis and homeostasis. As these pathways are often hijacked during bone metastasis, it is not surprising that miRNAs can also influence bone metastasis formation. Areas covered: In this review, we first summarize the major signalling pathways involved in normal bone development and bone m...

miRNAs expression of oral squamous cell carcinoma patients: Validation of two putative biomarkers
The objective of the present study was twofold: to analyze miRNA profiling and estimate related biological pathways and,to assess miRNAs profiles prognostic values in a cohort of OSCC-affected patients. The first study phase comprised case-control groups: A) 8 OSCC-affected patients and 8 healthy controls. Microarray technology (Affymetrix miRNA Array Plate 4.1) was used for miRNAs expression profile. Deregulated miRNAs were studied using Diana Tools miRPath 3.0 to associate miRNA targets with molecular pathways via Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG). In a second phase, 2 miRNAs chosen for the subsequent RT-q...

miRNAs and androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer
Biochim Biophys Acta Rev Cancer. 2021 Sep 14:188625. doi: 10.1016/j.bbcan.2021.188625. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAndrogen deprivation therapy (ADT) is mainly used for the treatment of advanced, metastatic or recurrent prostate cancer (PCa). However, patients progress to ADT resistance and castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) with a poor prognosis. Reliable validated markers of ADT resistance with proven clinical utility are necessary for timely correction of the therapy as well as for improvement of patient quality of life. MiRNAs involved in the ADT response and CRPC development via multiple mechanisms may act ...

Search for airway-derived miRNA biomarkers in pulmonary exacerbation in children with cystic fibrosis
The aim of our study was to verify if extracellular vesicles (EVs)-derived miRNAs are associated with pulmonary exacerbation (PE) in the airways of cystic fibrosis (CF) children. We used 24 sputum and 11 exhaled breath condensate (EBC) CF samples and 4 EBC samples from control subjects. MiRNA expression profile was assessed using next-generation sequencing and differential analysis was done using BaseSpace application "Small RNA" and verified with DESeq2 (Bioconductor). Data were normalized and used for the search of miRNAs with the greatest potential for PE differentiation, as well as the best endogenous control for futur...

Abstract A107: Cancer invadopodia controlled down-regulated miRNAs in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most malignant cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. However, molecular indicators of the origin of cellular deregulation in ESCC have not been identified. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), noncoding RNAs 21-25 nucleotides in length, regulate gene expression primarily at the posttranscriptional level. Growing evidence suggests that miRNAs are aberrantly expressed in many human cancers, and that they play significant roles in carcinogenesis and cancer progression. A search for miRNAs with a tumor-suppressive function in ESCC was performed using the miRNA expression signatures. miRN...

Abstract B31: miRNAs regulated cancer metastasis in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of endogenous small non-coding RNAs and negatively regulate gene expression through base pairing of 3' UTRs of the target genes. Over the past decade, much of important evidences have been obtained to clarify that miRNAs are unusual expressed in human malignancies and could act as OncomiRs or Tumor suppressive miRs.Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most malignant cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. Especially, metastatic recurrences after esophagectomy for ESCC bears unfortunately prognosis and little exists for treatment strategy. Clarification of molecular indicator...

Cascades between miRNAs, lncRNAs and the NF- κB signaling pathway in gastric cancer (Review)
Exp Ther Med. 2021 Jul;22(1):769. doi: 10.3892/etm.2021.10201. Epub 2021 May 17.ABSTRACTGastric cancer is a common digestive tract malignancy that is mainly treated with surgery combined with perioperative adjuvant chemoradiotherapy and biological targeted therapy. However, the diagnosis rate of early gastric cancer is low and both postoperative recurrence and distant metastasis are thorny problems. Therefore, it is essential to study the pathogenesis of gastric cancer and search for more effective means of treatment. The nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway has an important role in the occurrence and development ...

The role of miRNAs in polycystic ovary syndrome with insulin resistance
ConclusionWe found abundant evidence on the role of differentially expressed miRNAs with its related phenotypes in PCOS. Considering the essential role of insulin resistance in the pathogenesis of PCOS, the alterations of associated miRNAs need more research attention. We speculate that race/ethnicity or PCOS phenotype and differences in methodological differences might lead to inconsistencies in research findings; thus, several miRNA profiles need to be investigated further to qualify for the potential therapeutic targets for PCOS-IR.

Small RNA SequencingReveals Exosomal miRNAs as Unique Feature Markers in Unprovoked Venous Thromboembolism
Acta Haematol. 2022 Apr 19. doi: 10.1159/000524569. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common cardiovascular disease. miRNAs play a key role in VTE; however, the role of exosomal miRNAs in VTE remains unknown. Therefore, we aimed to identify key exosomal miRNAs and their potential mechanisms in VTE.METHODS: We collected 31 samples from unprovoked VTE patients and 25 samples from healthy individuals. Exosomal miRNA sequencing was performed on 11 unprovoked VTE samples and 9 normal samples, and remaining samples to verify the expression level of candidate 9 miRNAs in VTE and normal ...
