Green synthesis of lignin-based nanoparticles as a bio-carrier for targeted delivery in cancer therapy
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Jan 2:S0141-8130(22)03250-0. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2022.12.323. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPolymeric magnetic nanoparticles have shown higher efficacy in cancer diagnosis and treatment than conventional chemotherapies. Lignin is an abundantly available natural polymer that can be selectively modified using a rapidly expanding toolkit of biocatalytic and chemical reactions to yield 'intelligent' theranostic-nanoprobes. We aim to valorize lignin to develop a natural polymeric-magnetic-nano-system for the targeted delivery of methotrexate. In the current study, we synthesized nanoparticles of li...

Effects of different conformations of polylysine on the anti-tumor efficacy of methotrexate nanoparticles
In this study, two isomers of polylysine, including ε-polylysine (ε-PL) and α-polylysine (α-PL), were used as drug carriers to entrap methotrexate (MTX) and construct nano-drug delivery systems. ε-PL/MTX nanoparticles with the morphology of helical nanorods presented a small particle size (115.0 nm), and relative high drug loading content (57.8 %). The anticancer effect of ε-PL/MTX nanoparticles was 1.3-fold and 2.6-fold stronger than that of α-PL/MTX nanoparticles in vivo and in vitro, respectively. ε-PL is an ideal drug carrier with potential clinical application prospects.PMID:37037095 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2023.114662

Enhanced toxicity and cellular uptake of methotrexate-conjugated nanoparticles in folate receptor-positive cancer cells by decorating with folic acid-conjugated d-α-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate
Publication date: 1 December 2015 Source:Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, Volume 136 Author(s): Varaporn Buraphacheep Junyaprasert, Sirithip Dhanahiranpruk, Jiraphong Suksiriworapong, Kittisak Sripha, Primchanien Moongkarndi Folic acid-conjugated d-α-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (TPGS–FOL) decorated methotrexate (MTX)-conjugated nanoparticles were developed for targeted delivery of MTX to folate receptor-expressed tumor cells. The synthesis of TPGS–FOL followed 3-step process. Firstly, the terminal hydroxyl group of TPGS was converted to sulfonyl chloride using mesyl chloride in comparis...

Synthesis and formulation of methotrexate (MTX) conjugated LaF3:Tb(3+)/chitosan nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery applications.
Abstract Chitosan functionalized luminescent rare earth doped terbium nanoparticles (LaF3:Tb(3+)/chi NPs) as a drug carrier for methotrexate (MTX) was designed using a simple chemical precipitation method. The synthesized chitosan functionalized nanoparticles were found to be spherical in shape with an average diameter of 10-12nm. They are water soluble and biocompatible, in which the hydroxyl and amino functional groups on its surface are utilized for the bioconjugation of the anticancer drug, the methotrexate. The nature of MTX binding with LaF3:Tb(3+)/chi nanoparticles were examined using X-ray diffraction, zet...

Mucoadhesive and pH responsive fucoidan-chitosan nanoparticles for the oral delivery of methotrexate.
Abstract Considering the potential of mucoadhesive properties of nanoparticles in oral delivery, this work describes the preparation and characterization of fucoidan/chitosan nanoparticles loaded with methotrexate (MTX) intended to lung cancer therapy. The nanoparticles were produced and characterized in terms of size, surface charge, entrapment efficiency, and morphology. The size of the developed nanoparticles was around 300 nm, the zeta potential value was negative (ca. -30 mV), revealing a low tendency to aggregate. The self-assembled fucoidan/chitosan nanoparticles were stable at acidic pH (1.6-5.2), with...

Lactobionic acid-modified thymine-chitosan nanoparticles as potential carriers for methotrexate delivery
Carbohydr Res. 2021 Feb 26;501:108275. doi: 10.1016/j.carres.2021.108275. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn order to achieve efficient delivery of methotrexate (MTX), thymine-chitosan nanoparticles (Thy-Cs NPs) were prepared, and further decorated with lactobionic acid (LA) to obtain tumor-targeting nanoparticles (LA-Thy-Cs NPs). These nanoparticles possessed a regular spherical structure with the average size about 190-250 nm and narrow size distribution, which were kinetically stable in the physiological environment. Due to electrostatic interactions and multiple hydrogen-bonding interactions between MTX and carriers, MTX...
