Antimicrobial activity of the biogenically synthesized core-shell Cu@Pt nanoparticles
Publication date: Available online 15 February 2018 Source:Saudi Pharmaceutical Journal Author(s): Renata Dobrucka, Jolanta Dlugaszewska The interest in the biological synthesis of mono metal nanoparticles has been visible for years. As more attention is also given to the biological methods of synthesizing bimetallic nanoparticles, this work used the Agrimoniae herba extract in order to obtain bimetallic core-shell Cu@Pt nanoparticles. The formed core-shell Cu@Pt nanoparticles were characterized by Ultraviolet–Visible (UV–vis), Fourier Transform-Infrared (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electr...

Influence of chitosan coating on the oral bioavailability of gold nanoparticles in rats
This study evaluated the oral bioavailability of gold nanoparticles coated with chitosan (C-AuNPs), a natural mucoadhesive polymer. We employed traditional method of evaluating bioavailability that involve estimation of maximum concentrations and area under the curve of 3 nm chitosan coated gold nanoparticles (C-AuNPs) in the rat plasma following intravenous and oral administrations (0.8 mg and 8 mg /kg body weight respectively). The oral bioavailability of C-AuNPs was found to be 2.46 % (approximately 25 folds higher than polyethylene glycol (PEG) coated gold nanoparticles, reported earlier). These findings suggest that c...

Synthesis of silver nanoparticles using plant derived 4-N-methyl benzoic acid and evaluation of antimicrobial, antioxidant and antitumor activity
Publication date: Available online 3 April 2019Source: Saudi Journal of Biological SciencesAuthor(s): Mohamad S AlSalhi, Kannan Elangovan, Amirtham Jacob A. Ranjitsingh, P. Murali, Sandhanasamy DevanesanAbstractThe present study is to investigate the antitumor, antioxidant and antibacterial potential of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) synthesized from a phenolic derivative 4-N-methyl benzoic acid, isolated from a medicinal plant (Memecylon umbellatum Burm F). The Bio-inspired nanoparticles (NPs) were analyzed by using UV-vis spectroscopy, FTIR, HRTEM, Zeta potential and XRD techniques. The UV–vis spectroscopy study at the ...

Influence of gold and silver nanoparticles on the germination and growth of Mimusops laurifolia seeds in the South-Western regions in Saudi Arabia
This study shows the importance of nanotechnology to contribute the topic of scientific researches and to enrich the scientific libraries of new and affective techniques in the field of physics and botany. We have tried to study the effect of gold and silver nanoparticles on the seeds of Mimusops laurifolia. After the treatments by these granules’ nanoparticles on germination, the result was completely negative and there was no germination and in all the transactions the germination rate were zero, even after the usage of Sulphuric acid to seeds to soften the test of the seed. This study concludes by following-up the lea...

Magnetism and Application of NiFe@Au Nanoparticles
This report describes the synthesis of magnetic NiFe@Au (i.e., NiFe core with Au shell) nanoparticles as functional spectroscopic probes. Both of the magnetic NiFe nanoparticles and its composite NiFe@Au particles were synthesized in aqueous solution. It is more analogous with the biological organism environment. The composite nanoparticles were dispersible in aqueous solution and could be directed by a magnetic field. Such NiFe@Au nanoparticles have been shown to function as magnetic and spectroscopic nanoprobes for surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection of molecules attached to the surface of the nanoparticle...

Molecules, Vol. 26, Pages 130: Antimicrobial Potential of Biosynthesized Silver Nanoparticles by Aaronsohnia factorovskyi Extract
Albasher The green biosynthesis of nanoparticles by plant extracts is an attractive and promising technique for medicinal applications. In the current study, we chose one of the daisy plants, Aaronsohnia factorovskyi (which grows in the Najd region, Saudi Arabia), to investigate its anti-microbial efficacy, in combination with silver nanoparticles. The biosynthesized nanoparticles were evaluated for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillussubtilis (Gram-positive), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli, (Gram-negative) using the disc diffusion method, while the antifungal activity was asses...

Effects of potential microplastics in sewage effluent on Nile Tilapia and photocatalytic remediation with zinc oxide nanoparticles
Environ Pollut. 2023 Jun 10:121946. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.121946. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of the present study was a qualitative assessment of potential microplastics (MPs) in the sewage effluent collected from a local sewage treatment plant located in Riyadh City, Saudi Arabia. The composite samples of domestic sewage effluent were subjected to UV (ultraviolet) light-induced zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) mediated photocatalysis. The first phase of the study included the synthesis of the ZnONPs with an extensive characterization. The synthesized nanoparticles were 220 nm in size with a characteristic...

Syntheses and characterization of nickel(II) dithiocarbamate complexes containing NiS4 and NiS2PN moieties: Nickel sulphide nanoparticles from a single source precursor
In this study, ammonium N-benzyldithiocarbamate was synthesized and used to prepare homoleptic Ni(II) bis(N-benzyldithiocarbamate) (1) and heteroleptic Ni(II) complexes involving isocyanate (2) and cyanide (3) ions. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR), and NMR (1H and 13C) spectroscopic techniques. Complex 2 was further characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The FTIR showed bidentate co-ordination for all the complexes as the v(CN) stretching frequency were in the 980–1050 cm−1 region without any splitting. Thermal decomposition profile of...

Influence of strong bases on the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using the ligninolytic fungi Trametes trogii
Publication date: Available online 19 September 2018Source: Saudi Journal of Biological SciencesAuthor(s): Jesica María Kobashigawa, Carolina Analía Robles, María Luz Martínez Ricci, Cecilia Cristina CarmaránAbstractSilver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were biosynthesized using fungal extract of Trametes trogii, a white rot basidiomycete involved in wood decay worldwide, which produces several ligninolytic enzymes. According to previous studies using fungi, enzymes are involved in nanoparticles synthesis, through the so-called green synthesis process, acting as reducing and capping agents. Understanding which factors could mo...
