Datura suaveolens and Verbena tenuisecta mediated silver nanoparticles, their photodynamic cytotoxic and antimicrobial evaluation
AbstractBiogenic production of nanoparticles is eco-friendly, less expensive method with various medical and biological applications. Nanotechnology along with photodynamic therapy is gaining tremendous importance with enhanced efficacy. The present work was aimed to evaluate methanolic extracts and nanoparticles of two selected plants (Datura suavolens andVerbina tenuisecta) for cytotoxic photodynamic, antioxidant and antimicrobial study. Both extract and silver (5  mM) nanoparticles ofDatura plant showed significant activities against bacterial strains. Maximum ZOI of 27.3  ± 1.6 mm was observed with nanoparticles...

Glutathione-Triggered catalytic response of Copper-Iron mixed oxide Nanoparticles. Leveraging tumor microenvironment conditions for chemodynamic therapy
J Colloid Interface Sci. 2022 Mar 11;617:704-717. doi: 10.1016/j.jcis.2022.03.036. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHeterogeneous catalysis has emerged as a promising alternative for the development of new cancer therapies. In addition, regarding the tumor microenvironment as a reactor with very specific chemical features has provided a new perspective in the search for catalytic nanoarchitectures with specific action against chemical species playing a key role in tumor metabolism. One of these species is glutathione (GSH), whose depletion is the cornerstone of emerging strategies in oncology, since this metabolite plays a pi...

Association of Silver Nanoparticles and Curcumin Solid Dispersion: Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Properties.
The objective of this work was to develop a formulation composed of a thermoresponsive gel-with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties due to the association of AgNps with PVP and PVA polymers. After AgNp synthesis, these were incorporated together with the previously prepared CUR/P407 (1:2) solid dispersion (SD) into a polymer dispersion of 20% P407 (thermosensitive gel). Our results showed that the association between the AgNps with CUR SD demonstrated good antioxidant activity as compared to the standard compound. Measures of MIC showed more efficacy against Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aer...

Synthesis of Gossypium hirsutum ‐derived silver nanoparticles and their antibacterial efficacy against plant pathogens
A stem extract ofGossypium hirsutum was efficiently used for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The AgNPs showed antimicrobial activity against plant pathogens. Malvaceae and Brassicaceae family crops are economically important; however, their production has been markedly decreased in recent years due to various plant pests. Hence, the search for novel classes of efficient biological approaches continues due to unavailability of precise pesticides. The present study was designed to synthesize, characterize and evaluate the efficacy of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) obtained using stem extract ofGossypium hirsutum...

In vitro anthelmintic effect of biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles on liver amphistome, Gigantocotyle explanatum.
Abstract In order to ensure global food security a rationale approach is required to control all those factors which directly or indirectly affect the food productivity. The neglected helminthic diseases alone are responsible for huge economic losses to the agrarian stakeholders. The problem is further compounded by the emerging drug resistance in flukes against the commonly used anthelmintics like triclabendazole. Therefore, the search for alternatives including the nano-based approaches has become a necessity to develop future control strategies. In the present study the effect of biologically synthesized silver...

Biogenic silver nanoparticles (AgNp-Bio) reduce Toxoplasma gondii infection and proliferation in HeLa cells, and induce autophagy and death of tachyzoites by apoptosis-like mechanism
Acta Trop. 2021 Jul 28:106070. doi: 10.1016/j.actatropica.2021.106070. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTToxoplasma gondii is a protozoan parasite that can cause severe and debilitating diseases, especially in immunocompromised individuals. The available treatment is based on drugs that have low efficacy, high toxicity, several adverse effects, and need long periods of treatment. Thus, the search for therapeutic alternatives is urgently needed. Biogenic silver nanoparticles (AgNp-Bio) have been associated with several biological effects, as antiproliferative, pro-apoptotic, antioxidant, antiviral, antifungal, and antiprotozoal...

In vitro antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and anti-Alzheimer potentials of innovative macroalgae bio-capped silver nanoparticles
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2022 Apr 9. doi: 10.1007/s11356-022-20039-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe antagonistic side effects of chemical medications led to the search for safe strategies such as biogenic agents. Correspondingly, this study aims to create biogenic, appropriate, auspicious and innovative therapeutic agents like Galaxaura elongata {GE}, Turbinaria ornata {TO} and Enteromorpha flexuosa {EF} macroalgae-based silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs). The Ag+ reduction and the creation of Ag[GE]-NPs, Ag[TO]-NPs and Ag[EF]-NPs have been validated using UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy ...
