Single-cell resolution in high-resolution synchrotron X-ray CT imaging with gold nanoparticles
Gold nanoparticles are excellent intracellular markers in X-ray imaging. Having shown previously the suitability of gold nanoparticles to detect small groups of cells with the synchrotron-based computed tomography (CT) technique both ex vivo and in vivo, it is now demonstrated that even single-cell resolution can be obtained in the brain at least ex vivo. Working in a small animal model of malignant brain tumour, the image quality obtained with different imaging modalities was compared. To generate the brain tumour, 1 × 105 C6 glioma cells were loaded with gold nanoparticles and implanted in the right cerebral hemisphere...

One-step synthesis of multifunctional nanoparticles for CT/PA imaging guided breast cancer photothermal therapy
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2021 Feb 18;201:111630. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2021.111630. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAdvances in nanotheranostics have promoted the development of precision medicine, which has great potential as a weapon for clinical diagnosis and therapy of tumors. However, the combination of three functional principle components (imaging probes, therapeutic agents and surface coating) in traditional theranostic system is difficult to be achieved in only one step, while undergoing multiple synthesis procedures, time-consuming process and unknown toxicity. Herein, we fabricated iodinated polyaniline (L...

Photo-crosslinked gelatin methacryloyl hydrogel strengthened with calcium phosphate-based nanoparticles for early healing of rabbit calvarial defects
CONCLUSIONS: There was no difference in the efficacy of bone regeneration according to the synthesized method of photo-crosslinked GelMa hydrogel with nanoparticles. However, these materials could remain within a bone defect up to 2 weeks and showed good biocompatibility with little inflammatory response. Further improvement in mechanical properties and resistance to enzymatic degradation would be needed for the clinical application.PMID:36919004 | DOI:10.5051/jpis.2203220161

Molecules, Vol. 24, Pages 4054: Encapsulation of Upconversion Nanoparticles in Periodic Mesoporous Organosilicas
Conclusions: upconversion nanoparticles were located on the surface of mesoporous nanorods obtained by hydrolysis polycondensation of bis(triethoxysilyl)ethylene, whereas encapsulation occurred with bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane. The later nanoparticles NaYF4: Yb3+-Er3+@Ethane or BaLuF5: Yb3+-Er3+@Ethane were promising for applications with cancer cell imaging or X-ray-computed tomography respectively.
