Conversion of control and genetically-modified poplar into multi-scale products using integrated pretreatments
Bioresour Technol. 2023 Jun 28:129415. doi: 10.1016/j.biortech.2023.129415. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this work, a green and robust pretreatment which integrated acetic acid-catalyzed hydrothermal and wet mechanical pretreatment, was developed to efficiently produce high yield (up to 40.12%) of xylooligosaccharides and digestible substrates from Caffeoyl Shikimate Esterase down-regulated and control poplar wood. Subsequently, superhigh yield (more than 95%) of glucose and residual lignin were obtained after a moderate enzymatic hydrolysis. The residual lignin fraction exhibited a well-preserved β-O-4 linkages (42.0...

Combined transcriptome and metabolome analysis reveal that the white and yellow mango pulp colors are associated with carotenoid and flavonoid accumulation, and phytohormone signaling
Genomics. 2023 Jun 28:110675. doi: 10.1016/j.ygeno.2023.110675. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMango (Mangifera indica L.) is a widely appreciated tropical fruit for its rich color and nutrition. However, knowledge on the molecular basis of color variation is limited. Here, we studied HY3 (yellowish-white pulp) and YX4 (yellow pulp), reaped with 24 h gap from the standard harvesting time. The carotenoids and total flavonoids increased with the advance of harvest time (YX4 > HY34). Transcriptome sequencing showed that higher expressions of the core carotenoid biosynthesis genes and flavonoid biosynthesis genes are correla...

Gut microbiota associated with the mitigation effect of synbiotics on adverse events of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with esophageal cancer: A retrospective exploratory study
Conclusion. Anaerostipes hadrus and B. pseudocatenulatum may be involved in the ameliorating adverse events and can thus be used to identify beforehand patients that would benefit from LBG+EN during NAC. These results also suggest that LBG+EN would be useful in the development of measures to prevent adverse events during NAC.PMID:37367942 | DOI:10.1099/jmm.0.001723

Remote Activation of Enzyme Nanohybrids for Cancer Prodrug Therapy Controlled by Magnetic Heating
ACS Nano. 2023 Jun 26. doi: 10.1021/acsnano.3c01599. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHerein, we have developed nanohybrids (nHs) to remotely activate a therapeutic enzyme for its use in Directed Enzyme Prodrug Therapy (DEPT). The coencapsulation of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) using biomimetic silica as an entrapment matrix was optimized to obtain nanosized hybrids (∼150 nm) for remote activation of the therapeutic enzyme. HRP converts indole-3-acetic acid (3IAA) into peroxylated radicals, whereas MNPs respond to alternating magnetic fields (AMFs) becoming local hotspots. The AMF applicat...

On the rich chemistry of pseudo-protic ionic liquid electrolytes
ChemSusChem. 2023 Jun 26:e202300535. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202300535. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMixing weak acids and bases can produce highly complicated binary mixtures, called pseudo-protic ionic liquids, in which a complex network of effects determine the physicochemical properties that are currently impossible to predict. In this joint computational-experimental study, we investigated 1-methylimidazole-acetic acid mixtures through the whole concentration range. Effects of the varying ionization and excess of either components on the properties, such as density, diffusion coefficients, and overall hydrogen bonding stru...

Naringenin mitigates reserpine-induced anxiety-like behavior, neurodegeneration, and oxidative stress in male rats
Neurosci Behav Physiol. 2023 May 18:1-7. doi: 10.1007/s11055-023-01401-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTReserpine (Res) induces anxiety-like behaviors, orofacial dyskinesia, and neurodegeneration in animals, the pathophysiology of which has been related to oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether naringenin (NG) could prevent reserpine-induced anxiety-like behaviors, orofacial dyskinesia, and neurodegeneration in male rats. Twenty-eight male rats were distributed into different groups as follows: Control rats; vehicle rats, which received the vehicles (normal saline, orally; acetic acid, intra...

Physiol Mol Biol Plants. 2023 May;29(5):679-693. doi: 10.1007/s12298-023-01316-6. Epub 2023 Jun 2.ABSTRACTCIM-Saumya is an improved, methyl chavicol rich variety of Ocimum basilicum (Family-Lamiaceae), developed by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. This plant possesses analgesic, anti-ulcerogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, cardiac stimulant, Central Nervous System depressant, hepatoprotective and immunomodulator activities due to the presence of various phytoconstituents. Among them rosmarinic acid, caffeic acid and ferulic acid are the three major phen...

Disinfection of Clostridioides difficile on spinach with epigallocatechin-based antimicrobial solutions and sodium hypochlorite
Int J Food Microbiol. 2023 Jun 22;402:110301. doi: 10.1016/j.ijfoodmicro.2023.110301. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe removal of C. difficile inoculated on fresh spinach leaves washed with antimicrobial solutions was investigated. In addition, the effect of washing solutions on the total aerobic mesophilic bacteria (TAMB) and Enterobacteriaceae in the fresh spinach was examined. The fresh spinach was washed through immersion in different concentrations (MIC, 2xMIC, and 4xMIC) of the natural disinfectant solution (NDS) consisting of EDTA, borax, and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) content developed in our laboratory and g...

Endophytic Bacillus sp. AP10 harboured in Arabis paniculata mediates plant growth promotion and manganese detoxification
This study isolated an endophytic bacterium with high Mn resistance and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) production form A. paniculata and identified it as Bacillus sp. AP10 using 16 S rRNA gene sequencing analysis. The effects of Bacillus sp. AP10 on the alleviation of Mn2+ toxicity in Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings and the molecular mechanisms were further investigated using biochemical tests and RNA-seq analysis. Under Mn2+ stress, Bacillus sp. AP10 increased the biomass, chlorophyll content and the translocation factor (TF) values of Mn in the aerial parts, while decreased the malondialdehyde (MDA) content of A. thaliana see...
