Assessing the representativeness of cluster randomized trials: Evidence from two large pragmatic trials in United States nursing homes
CONCLUSION: In both trials, facility-level characteristics of randomized nursing homes differed considerably from those of eligible non-randomized and ineligible facilities, while there was little difference in resident-level characteristics across the three groups. Investigators should assess the characteristics of clusters that participate in cluster randomized trials, not just the individuals within the clusters, when examining the applicability of trial results beyond participating clusters.PMID:37493171 | DOI:10.1177/17407745231185055

Epidemiology-driven approaches to surveillance in HPAI-vaccinated poultry flocks aiming to demonstrate freedom from circulating HPAIV
Biologicals. 2023 Jul 24;83:101694. doi: 10.1016/j.biologicals.2023.101694. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIncursion pressure of high pathogenicity avian influenza viruses (HPAIV) by secondary spread among poultry holdings and/or from infected migratory wild bird populations increases worldwide. Vaccination as an additional layer of protection of poultry holdings using appropriately matched vaccines aims at reducing clinical sequelae of HPAIV infection, disrupting HPAIV transmission, curtailing economic losses and animal welfare problems and cutting exposure risks of zoonotic HPAIV at the avian-human interface. Products der...

Phylogenetic analysis and docking study of neuraminidase gene of influenza A/H1N1 viruses circulating in Iran from 2010 to 2019
This study highlighted the evolutionary trend of influenza A virus/H1N1 circulating in Iran, which provides a preliminary viewpoint for a better comprehension of new emerging strains' virulence and thus, more appropriate monitoring of influenza virus A/H1N1 during each outbreak season.PMID:37490957 | DOI:10.1016/j.virusres.2023.199182

Influenza and pneumococcal vaccination coverage and associated factors in patients hospitalized with acute exacerbations of COPD in China: Findings from the real-world data
CONCLUSIONS: Influenza and pneumococcal vaccination coverage are extremely low. Urgent measures are necessary to increase vaccination coverage among inpatients with AECOPD in China.PMID:37488669 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002790

Enhanced HPV16 E6/E7+ tumor eradication via induction of tumor-specific T cells by therapeutic vaccination with virosomes presenting synthetic long peptides
AbstractTherapeutic cancer vaccines trigger CD4  + and CD8 + T cell responses capable of established tumor eradication. Current platforms include DNA, mRNA and synthetic long peptide (SLP) vaccines, all aiming at robust T cell responses. SLPs linked to the Amplivant® adjuvant (Amplivant-SLP) have shown effective delivery to dendritic cel ls, resulting in improved immunogenicity in mice. We have now tested virosomes as a delivery vehicle for SLPs. Virosomes are nanoparticles made from influenza virus membranes and have been used as vaccines for a variety of antigens. Amplivant-SLP virosomes induced the expansion of...
