Overcoming Digital FOMO
One reason people succumb to digital clutter like clogged inboxes and excessive browser tabs is that they’re being too clingy with digital content. There’s an overwhelm of digital content, and you may feel the need to capture and save lots of it, hopefully to be digested later. Having an intelligent capture system can help, but it’s also wise to reduce the flow if you’re frequently overflowing your inboxes with new ideas. Here are some tips to help you overcome digital clinginess. Test being 100% caffeine-free for at least a month. Regular caffeine consumption can make it harder to prior...

New books on the early history of British psychoanalysis: An essay review.
Reviews the books, Freud in Cambridge by John Forrester and Laura Cameron and Psychoanalysis in Britain, 1893-1913: Histories and Historiography by Philip Kuhn. Sigmund Freud and his invention of the discipline of psychoanalysis had an immense intellectual impact on 20th-century culture. Yet, although his writings were received with great enthusiasm—as well as with hostility—we are still lacking full accounts of all the various sites where Freud and his ideas were widely discussed and which rapidly paired his name (as early as the 1920s) with those of eminent intellectuals such as Karl Marx, Charles Darwin, and Albert ...

Sprinkle Goals
I think of a sprinkle goal as being a token goal that’s added to a goal list to try to create better balance. It adds the impression of balance, but it doesn’t really connect with deeper meaning or purpose. Picture the sprinkles on top of a cupcake. They look nice, but they don’t really add much substance to the cupcake. And if you only have sprinkle goals, then you have no cupcake at all. You just have some colored sugar. Here are some examples of sprinkle goals: Read 10 booksExercise moreSpend time with my wife / husband / kidsConnect with my friends each weekSpend less time onlineMake a new so...

Springer Nature revives IPO plans, new bank consortium: sources
Springer Nature, the publisher of science magazines Nature and Scientific American, is reviving plans for a stock market listing, two years after a first attempt fell through, people close to the matter said. Its owners, buyout group BC Partners and publisher Holtzbrinck, are working with a new bank consortium led by Goldman Sachs (GS.N) and Morgan Stanley (MS.N) on the deal, which may value the company at 7-8 billion euros ($7.8-8.9 billion), including debt, they added. BNP Paribas (BNPP.PA) and Citi (C.N) are among those helping as so-called bookrunners with the initial public offering, which could take place as ea...

Why Your 2020 New Year ’s Health or Fitness Resolution Might be Proven Outdated by 2030
Each year, as the calendar turns from December to January, millions of people make resolutions. And each year, surveys show, many of those self-promises relate to wellness, whether it’s losing weight, eating better, exercising more or simply getting healthier. But “getting healthier” isn’t a fixed concept. If health advice is anything, it’s fickle. While some concepts stand the test of time—eat fruits and vegetables, get plenty of sleep, exercise when you can—other trends are over practically as soon as they begin. (Remember appetite-suppressant lollipops and Shake Weights?) As a r...
