Is tinnitus an early voice of masked hypertension? High masked hypertension rate in patients with tinnitus.
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that masked hypertension must be kept in mind if there is a complaint of tinnitus without any other obvious reason. PMID: 29683729 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Efficacy of Tinnitus Retraining Therapy, A Modish Management of Tinnitus: Our Experience
AbstractTinnitus retraining therapy involves masking of tinnitus at sound perception level in combination with structured counselling sessions. To assess efficacy of Tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT) in Patients of Tinnitus with Sensori Neural Hearing loss. Prospective study was carried out on patients who presented with Tinnitus in ENT OPD from December 2015 to December 2016. Severity of tinnitus was documented using Tinnitus handicap inventory scale. Response to tinnitus is evaluated at the end of 3  months. In our study 57 patients in age group 21–78 years were selected and Tinnitus retraining therapy was administer...

Epidemiology of Clinically Significant Tinnitus: A 10-Year Trend From Nationwide Health Claims Data in South Korea
Conclusions: The prevalence and incidence of tinnitus in this study for entire nation were lower than previously reported studies. These results have limitation because the study only covered patient using the medical service for tinnitus and missed tinnitus sufferers not seeking medical service. However, this study is meaningful in that it was targeting entire nation, reflected the characteristics of clinically significant tinnitus patient enough to visit medical service

Degree of tinnitus improvement with stapes surgery – a review
ConclusionWe conclude that stapes surgery is effective for the treatment of tinnitus (average improvement is 85.52%), and hearing loss (average improvement is 93%). When deciding about the surgical indication in patients with otosclerosis, the presence and level tinnitus should be considered as well as the level of hearing. ObjetivoUma...

The use of Distortion Product Otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) records to estimate effect of vitamin B complex on changing severity of Tinnitus
ConclusionsThe uses of DPOAE changing amplitude could be used as a parameter to estimate effect of vitamin B complex on changing the severity of Tinnitus in patients with tinnitus only or those have Tinnitus with SNHL. The supplementation of vitamin B complex could improve the tinnitus severity especially in patients with tinnitus without SNHL.

Relationship Between Tinnitus Loudness Measure by Visual Analogue Scale and Psychoacoustic Matching of Tinnitus Loudness
Conclusions: The VAS scale for tinnitus loudness does not generally correspond to psychoacoustic measures of tinnitus loudness. It is only indicative for tinnitus patients who have normal hearing.

Tinnitus Severity Is Related to the Sound Exposure of Symphony Orchestra Musicians Independently of Hearing Impairment
Conclusion: Musicians frequently report tinnitus. Any tinnitus and severe tinnitus are significantly associated with the cumulative lifetime sound exposure, which was shown to be the most important factor not only for the prevalence but also for the severity of tinnitus—even in musicians without hearing loss. High-frequency hearing thresholds and tinnitus severity were correlated only if the cumulative lifetime sound exposure was excluded from the analyses.

Living with tinnitus and the health care journey: An interpretative phenomenological analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Tinnitus is a biopsychosocial condition, and associated distress is affected by cognitive, behavioural, attentional, and social factors. The individuals' initial reactions to tinnitus interact with the responses of others, including health care professionals. The burden of tinnitus could be reduced by developing early interventions that offer clear, helpful, and realistic information about tinnitus and appropriate treatments. Statement of contribution What is already known on this subject? Tinnitus is the experience of an internal sound without an external sound source. It can be troubling, disabling, and chro...

Tinnitus in Canada.
This study summarizes new tinnitus data from the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS). DATA AND METHODS: Data were collected for individuals aged 19 to 79 years (n=6,571) from 2012 through 2015 as part of the CHMS. Tinnitus is described as "the presence of hissing, buzzing, ringing, rushing or roaring sounds in your ears when there is no other sound around you." Bothersome tinnitus refers to tinnitus affecting sleep, concentration or mood. Factors associated with tinnitus were examined using bivariate and logistic regression analyses. RESULTS: An estimated 37% of adult Canadians (9.2 million) had experienced tinn...

Advances in Understanding, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Tinnitus.
Authors: Tang D, Li H, Chen L Abstract Tinnitus is one of the most common hearing disorders, with wide-ranging risk factors including age, hearing loss, noise exposure, inflammatory diseases or tumors of the ear, ototoxic drugs, head or cervical vertebra trauma, and psychological disorders (e.g., anxiety and depression). Tinnitus can be a lifelong disorder and will bring about annoyance, anxiety, depression, insomnia, hyperacusis, concentration difficulty, and, in some extreme cases, suicide. Not every tinnitus patient will require medical attention, and the majority often get accustomed to the phantom sound; howev...

Auditory Gating and Extended High-Frequency Thresholds in Normal-Hearing Adults With Minimal Tinnitus.
Conclusions A trade-off between lower and higher level gating function was observed in adults with normal hearing and tinnitus, indicative of higher order compensatory mechanisms. Better cochlear sensitivity in extended high frequencies was related to decreased lower level gating processes and increased tinnitus THI scores, suggestive of an interaction between decreased gating and heightened auditory awareness. We are currently exploring whether gating processes in this population are compensatory, and the role of gating in auditory awareness. PMID: 31022362 [PubMed - in process]

Predicting Reduced Tinnitus Burden After Cochlear Implantation in Adults
Conclusions: Worse residual hearing and higher baseline hearing and tinnitus handicap are associated with higher odds of tinnitus improvement. Expectations of patients seeking reduced tinnitus burden following cochlear implantation should be managed by counselling regarding odds of tinnitus improvement compared to those with similar residual hearing and tinnitus burden.

Changes in Tinnitus by Cochlear Implantation: A Parametric Study of the Effect of Single-Electrode Stimulation
Conclusion: In conclusion, the effect of single-electrode stimulation on tinnitus is relatively insignificant in comparison to the effect of full-array stimulation. However, in some individual cases, sustained single-electrode stimulation may be beneficial for tinnitus management.Audiol Neurotol
