Predictors of the masticatory muscle activity during chewing in patients with myogenous temporomandibular disorder
ConclusionsAccording to the present study, pain intensity, muscle and joint tenderness, and the severity of the disorder are predictive factors for MMA of the masseter and TA muscles in patients with mTMD. It is recommended that these parameters be considered when establishing clinical evaluation and treatment programs focusing on MMA in patients with mTMD.Clinical relevanceThe pain intensity, masticatory muscles and TMJ tenderness, and disorder severity are predictors for MMA of the masseter and TA in patients with mTMD. Pain intensity has the most significant importance.

Can growing patients with end-stage TMJ pathology be successfully treated with alloplastic temporomandibular joint reconstruction? – A systematic review
ConclusionsClinical experience with alloplastic TMJR in growing patients is limited to cases showing poor prognosis with other types of reconstruction. Nevertheless, studies show promising results for the use of alloplastic TMJR in growing patients, highlighting the need for well-controlled prospective studies with long-term follow-up.

Computational modelling of the fossa component fixation associated with alloplastic total temporomandibular joint replacements
J Mech Behav Biomed Mater. 2023 Sep 7;147:106104. doi: 10.1016/j.jmbbm.2023.106104. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe alloplastic total temporomandibular joint (TMJ) replacement is a complex surgical approach to end-stage TMJ disorders. The fixation of TMJ prostheses remains a critical issue for implant design and performance. For the fossa component, it is generally considered to use fixation screws to achieve tripod stability. However, the fossa may still come loose, and the mechanism remains unknown. A computational framework, consisting of a musculoskeletal model for calculating muscle and TMJ forces, and a finite elem...

Neurotransmission, vasculogenesis, and osteogenesis activities are altered in the aging temporomandibular joint of the senescence-accelerated prone 8 mouse model
Alterations in neurotransmission, vasculogenesis, and osteogenesis pathways that may play pivotal roles in age-related changes in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are poorly understood.

Disparities in Offering Enrollment in Remote Patient Monitoring for COVID-19
Conclusions: We found disparities in who is offered access to remote monitoring despite the use of standardized care pathways. Health systems need to evaluate how they implement RPM programs and care pathways to ensure equitable care delivery.PMID:37707989 | DOI:10.1089/tmj.2023.0150

Intra-articular platelet-rich plasma injection versus hydrocortisone with local anesthetic injections for temporo mandibular disorders
This study demonstrated that while treating patients with TMJ issues, local anaesthesia combined with hydrocortisone as well as intra-articular injection of PRP help in reduction in pain, increase mouth opening, and minimize joint sound. Additionally, it was discovered that intra-articular injection of PRP was more successful in treating patients in this trial than local anaesthetic combined with hydrocortisone.PMID:37693922 | PMC:PMC10492511 | DOI:10.6026/97320630018991

Pharmacological Management of Orofacial Pain
Published:26 August 2023Drugs (2023)AbstractOrofacial pain is a category of complex disorders, including musculoskeletal, neuropathic and neurovascular disorders, that greatly affect the quality of life of the patient. These disorders are within the fields of dentistry and medicine and management can be challenging, requiring a referral to an orofacial pain specialist, essential for adequate evaluation, diagnosis, and care. Management is specific to the diagnosis and a treatment plan is developed with diverse pharmacological and non-pharmacological modalities. The pharmacological management of orofacial ...
