Effect of Myopia Severity on the Health-Related Quality of Life in Children and Their Parents
CONCLUSIONS: More severe myopia resulted in a larger QOL decrease in both children and parents. Significantly reduced QOL were identified in children with high myopia and parents of children with any myopia.PMID:37655440 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2023.2250581

Using Adjustable-Focus Spectacles in Young Children to Meet Increasing Eyecare Needs
Zhao et al assess self-refraction using adjustable-focus spectacles in children aged 5 to 11 years. This concern touches on a number of public health issues, including changing myopia prevalence, clinician shortages, access to adequate vision care, and health equity. Providing an efficient, compact, and mobile means to address vision screening and refractive correction, especially in resource-limited areas, has particular importance for pediatric patients who need simple refractive correction in order to thrive educationally and ultimately in society.

Comparison of central corneal thickness treated with small incision lenticule extraction, femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, or laser-assisted subepithelial keratomileusis for myopia
AbstractTo compare the central corneal thickness (CCT) treated with small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE), femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK), or laser-assisted subepithelial keratomileusis (LASEK) for myopia correction. This was a retrospective case series study. Patients who had completed 1-year follow-up after receiving SMILE, FS-LASIK, or LASEK at our hospital from January 2019 to July 2021 were included. Pentacam pachymetry was performed to measure the CCT. The predicted CCT reduction was obtained through laser platform. The measured CCT reduction was defined as the difference between t...

FIT-Net: Feature Interaction Transformer Network for Pathologic Myopia Diagnosis
Automatic and accurate classification of retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT) images is essential to assist physicians in diagnosing and grading pathological changes in pathologic myopia (PM). Clinically, due to the obvious differences in the position, shape, and size of the lesion structure in different scanning directions, ophthalmologists usually need to combine the lesion structure in the OCT images in the horizontal and vertical scanning directions to diagnose the type of pathological changes in PM. To address these challenges, we propose a novel feature interaction Transformer network (FIT-Net) to diagnose PM u...

Factors influencing myopia stabilisation in young myopic adult Singaporeans
CONCLUSION: 5 in 6 Singaporean young adults had myopia stabilisation. Male gender is 2 times and non-Chinese ethnicities are 2.5 times more likely to achieve myopia stabilisation. However, a proportion of myopes continue to exhibit a clinically significant degree of progression in adulthood.PMID:37640399 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2023-323680
