Measuring self‐reported quality of life in 8‐ to 11‐year‐old children born with gastroschisis: Is the KIDSCREEN questionnaire acceptable?
ConclusionThe KIDSCREEN questionnaire has adequate face and content validity as a measure of QoL in children with gastroschisis and is acceptable to both children and parents. Birth Defects Research (Part A), 2016. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Gastroschisis with gastric perforation and jejunal stenosis. A rare association of anomalies.
CONCLUSIONS: We have presented the first detailed report of surgical intervention and outcomes in case of gastroschisis with prenatal gastric perforation and congenital jejunal stenosis. Early restoration of bowel continuity using primary anastomosis and primary abdominal wall closure is recommended here. More research should be focused to predict complex gastroschisis and to improve prenatal diagnosis and postnatal management, without a significant increase in morbidity and mortality. Multilayered Flap Technique: A Method for Delayed Closure of Giant Omphalocele
We present 3 patients treated by a delayed closure technique for ventral hernia repair. In this technique, the epithelialized omphalocele sac and peritoneum are elevated as flaps, which are used to reconstruct the abdominal wall in multiple layers.

Outcomes of bedside sutureless umbilical closure without endotracheal intubation for gastroschisis repair in surgical infants
Conclusion Bedside sutureless umbilical closure without intubation is feasible and effective in newborns with gastroschisis. The procedure decreases time to gastroschisis closure. Smaller and more premature neonates were more likely to be successfully closed without intubation.

Wandering spleen associated with omphalocele in a neonate: An unusual case with non-operative management
Publication date: Available online 16 June 2017 Source:Journal of Pediatric Surgery Case Reports Author(s): Daisuke Masui, Suguru Fukahori, Kimio Asagiri, Shinji Ishii, Nobuyuki Saikusa, Naoki Hashizume, Motomu Yoshida, Naruki Higasidate, Saki Sakamoto, Shiori Tsuruhisa, Yoshiaki Tanaka, Minoru Yagi Wandering spleen with a history of omphalocele is extremely rare. We encountered a male baby with wandering spleen associated with omphalocele. This case of wandering spleen in a neonate was diagnosed by ultrasound and computed tomography scans after surgery for omphalocele. Our case was able to be managed non-operatively due ...

Possible etiologies of increased incidence of gastroschisis
ConclusionThe majority of gastroschisis patients were from RUP-use areas, supporting the idea that pesticides may contribute to the development of gastroschisis, although limited data on specific releases make it difficult to apply these findings. As more RUP-use data become available to the public, these important research questions can be investigated further.

Evaluation of Early Onset Sepsis, Complete Blood Count, and Antibiotic Use in Gastroschisis
Conclusion Our results indicate that I:T ratio is not a reliable marker of infection in gastroschisis, and suggest that empiric septic evaluation and antibiotic use, immediately following delivery in gastroschisis infants, may be unnecessary. A rare case of OEIS complex & #8211;newer approach to diagnosis of exstrophy bladder by color doppler and its differentiation from simple omphalocele
The objective of this article is to present a new approach to diagnose and differentiate similar ventral masses by color Doppler. Two cases of ventral masses, a rare case of OEIS complex (Omphalocele-exstrophy-imperforate anus-spinal defects) with unusual presentation of exstrophy bladder and another of simple omphalocele, were studied by color Doppler for diagnosis and differentiation between the nature of similar masses. Ventral mass with absent bladder, normal kidneys, and normal amniotic fluid index raised the suspicion of exstrophy bladder. Color Doppler depicting altered intrafetal course of umbilical arteries and um...

Familial occurrence of gastroschisis: a population-based overview on recurrence risk, sex-dependent influence, and geographical distribution
ConclusionOur findings support a greater liability attributable to familial factors on gastroschisis along with significant information for family and prenatal counseling. We suggest that future studies should include for a more accurate account for both familial and environmental confounding factors to uncover relatives and environmental exposures that more limited family histories may have missed.

Understanding gastroschisis and its clinical management: where are we?
Authors: Haddock C, Skarsgard ED Abstract INTRODUCTION: Gastroschisis is the commonest developmental defect of the anterior abdominal wall in both developed and developing countries. The past 30 years have seen transformational improvements in outcome due to advances in neonatal intensive care and enhanced integration between the disciplines of maternal fetal medicine, neonatology and pediatric surgery. A review of gastroschisis, which emphasizes its epidemiology, multidisciplinary care strategies and contemporary outcomes is timely. Areas covered: This review discusses the current state of knowledge related to pre...

National Practice Patterns for Prenatal Monitoring in Gastroschisis: Gastroschisis Outcomes of Delivery (GOOD) Provider Survey
Discussion: Gastroschisis management differs among NAFTNet centers, although the majority initiate surveillance at 32 weeks. Timing of delivery still requires consensus. Prospective studies are necessary to further optimize practice guidelines and patient care.Fetal Diagn Ther

Herpesvirus Infection in Infants with Gastroschisis
Conclusions: Our results do not support direct involvement of herpesviruses in the etiology of gastroschisis. However, there are several limitations in our study, most notably the known induction of this congenital malformation early in pregnancy and our analysis of blood taken at birth. Therefore, we cannot conclude that herpesviruses play no role in the etiology of gastroschisis and further research is needed to better define this relationship.

Left-sided gastroschisis
Publication date: Available online 7 July 2018Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery Case ReportsAuthor(s): Ethan A. Litman, Tyler D. Robinson, Upender K. Munshi, Christine WhyteAbstractThe fetus of a 29 year old G2P1 was diagnosed on routine prenatal ultrasound in the early second trimester with gastroschisis. Classically, gastroschisis is a right-sided periumbilical abdominal wall defect. Our case is highly unusual because the gastroschisis defect was on the left. None of the current theories of the embryogenesis of right sided gastroschisis adequately explains how the defect can arise on the left. Associated congenital an...
